Ain’t Nothing Wrong With A Little Sleek Indie Rock

10698454_841530082554442_5105872687075900313_nAre you bummed that Summer’s on its way out? Same. So lets channel some late summer vibes with Fort Lean, an outfit out of Brooklyn who’ve got some straightforward indie rock for you to enjoy. “Might’ve Misheard,” is a great rock number with a radio-ready and explosive chorus that’ll let you shake off the ever-relentless heat. The song starts off already at a simmer, building its way to that streamlined chorus. This number is taken from these gentlemen’s upcoming full length record, Quiet Day, which is out on October 2nd via Ooh La La Records. Take a listen and if you like it, preorder that record here.

Slightly Late To The Party: New Moses Sumney Track

11066546_1056172774396423_6186988763662925916_nMoses Sumney has been gaining lots of attention for his soulful folk tunes as of late, and when I heard this new track “Pleas,” I realized it was time to show him a little attention myself. When you press play on this number, you’ll be welcomed the delicate guitar plucking and Sumney’s rich vocals that ooze warmth cut you slightly with their gentle rasp. It’s a great simple folk song, but it’s clear that the vocals are the main attraction, and near the end of the song you are treated to some chilling oohs that showcase his power in that field. Take a listen and fall in love, then go pre-order it here.

I Missed the Latest from Paint Branch

paintbranchPaint Branch probably isn’t a household name, but in my circle of friends, the members of the group are two of the most heralded in our collections…both being founding members of Q and Not U (why can’t Fun x 3 Fest book that reunion!?). However, don’t expect their emo-leaning art punk to come through your speakers, as the duo have been crafting more melodically influenced pop rock since they started this project.  This tune below if from their most recent Paint Branch EP, which hopefully means the duo will be writing more songs this year.

Electro Pop From Nova Heart

srj4_NOVAHEARTcirclebyRenHangcopy_1I’m sure many of us are struggling on this Monday as we think about the three day weekend we have coming our way in just a few short days.  Though we may be struggling, we always have the music to brighten even the most somber of moods.  Today this tune called “We Are Golden” from Beijing based Nova Heart is a perfect one to improve a slow start to the week.  I dig the synth heavy bass lines and smoothness shining through during the entire length of the track.  Here’s to surviving the week.

You can pick up the new self-titled LP from Nova Heart on October 2nd via FakeMusicMedia.

3 x 3 Show Reminder @ Mohawk — Tonight

3for3AugustI get it. Mondays are always a struggle. But, far too often we give up, thinking we just gotta hold on until the weekend.  Well, I’m going to rage against the dying of the week, and remind you to join me and everyone else for the first 3×3 Series. Three bands, three bucks. It won’t even go too late, so you can get home and still get at least 6-7 hours of sleep…or more. Twin Bitches go on at 9, Rain Collectors at 10 and Que Pasa at 11. It’s three bucks, a dollar a band. I’d love to see you at Mohawk tonight.

Ease Into Monday with Erasers

eraserThere’s a lot of music being crafted of late that supplies immediacy; it’s meant to be immediately consumed, thus it hits you right tin the face from the get go.  But, that’s not the case with Australia’s Erasers and their new single by any means.  This tune is almost an inaudible post, created by this lush touch of electronics and percussion and touched up by an occasional vocal.  I feel like its the perfect way to begin a Monday, allowing you slowly let your mind creep into the workweek. Fire Talk will be in charge of unleashing the group’s debut, Stem Together, on September 25th.

Killer New Track From Avid Dancer

avid-dancerOh snap, it’s about to be the weekend, and I’m ready to party… just kidding more like work the whole weekend away. But I can at least channel the weekend vibe with this new track from Avid Dancer and man is it a winner. It’s got a great weekend feeling to it, synths abundant a nice little danceable beat to get you shaking it on your Friday. I enjoyed the latest release from Avid Dancer, 1st Bath, earlier in the year, but this one has got a special bit of spunk to it that sets it above the rest. Take a listen and enjoy.

This Salad Boys Track Is Fresh

1400329_355719291231156_545990366_oSalad Boys, who hail from New Zealand, are getting ready to release their debut LP called Metalmania, and if you haven’t already taken a listen to their jangly garage rock, it’s time that you get on the same page as the rest of the world and take a listen. This track, “No Taste Bomber,” is a mostly jangly garage rock hit, but near the end of the song, the band really hits their stride, and they give you a rad guitar solo that makes you forget that the track started so mellow; it will melt your face off. Take some time to get acquainted with these gentlemen below and lookout for their album coming on September 18th via Trouble In Mind.

Have You Heard of Death by Unga Bunga

deathbyungabungaIn the world of band names, I’ll have to say that Death by Unga Bunga falls on the stranger side of things (though clearly not the strangest).  Still, their music isn’t too far out there, instead nestling itself alongside today’s purveyors of power pop. It’s got a hint of garage influence and brattiness, though there’s still this undeniable lineage to early 90s alternative pop music. Think of listening to Superdrag record hits in your neighbor’s garage; it sounds like a recipe for success if you ask me. The band’s debut Tell Me Why EP will be released on October 2nd, so keep an eye and ear out for the Unga Bunga.
