Great New Track From The Gloomies

unnamed (1)SoCal band The Gloomies just sent out this killer new track “LSD” over the weekend and it’s been on repeat since Saturday.  I think they sound a little bit like Portland newcomers Wampire with maybe just a tad more psych rock to the style.  It’s definitely filled with some familiar sounds, but I think the band are creating something truly unique and all their own.

You can pre-order the band’s new 7-inch via Thrill Me Records (Out Oct. 16th).

ACL 2015 WE2 In Pictures: Friday Edition

ACLSo, let’s start with the photo portion of our ACL coverage. I have a confession; I sold my soul to take photos of the Foo Fighters. Yes, I signed a release. If the Foo people read this, please try to keep up to your end of the bargain and leave the watermark for ATH and send a little credit our way “as allowed”. I’ll probably never check if you guys use my pics, but be nice.

The Friday edition of photos starts with Avers and ends with the Foos, Son Little, Royal Blood, London Souls, Albert Hammond Jr., Billy Idol, Run The Jewels and Tame Impala in between.

How The Hell Did We Miss This Beach Baby Track?!

12068986_939893629415344_235488137911707035_oI’m dumbfounded, confused and a bit angry at myself because one of the bands we’ve been tracking since the beginning of the year dropped another blazingly beautiful track and we missed it! Oh well, not to worry, I’ve got this semi-new track from Beach Baby, “Limousine” below. It’s all sorts of surf rock magic, but like all the other tracks we’ve heard from this band, the guitars have this white hot distortion to them that puts some real urgency behind the surfy licks. Personally, I’m reminded a bit of The Vaccines with this track, with its catchy chorus and huge sound. Take a listen below and catch up on what you missed out on.

Beautiful Smoky Track From Cross Record

10922432_512148512257410_7508773176381109828_nI know it’s only Tuesday, but you’ve just found your song of the week right here. Cross Record, if you didn’t know, are husband and wife duo Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski, and they’ve been making waves around the live scene here in Austin, and will blow you away with this track “Steady Waves,” which mixes loud and soft folk rock elements for the perfect balance of gentle sound with a growing rock bite to it. It’s a sprawling number, with tinkling wind-chime-esque guitar plucking alternating with heavy rock builds, showing the influence of the remote recording location out in Dripping Springs. It’s the kind of track that makes you want to close your eyes and simply let the music push and pull you where it pleases, forgetting everything else is around. It comes off of Wabi-Sabi, the band’s upcoming record that is set to be released January 29th on Ba Da Bing Records, which you will most certainly want to pre-order right here.

ATH Premiere: Cormandelles Unleash Title Track, from Late Bloomer’s Bloomers

latebloomersDan Michicoff is having a killer year thus far, having just released Poster with his band, Tijuana Panthers. But, never one to rest, Dan enlisted a few friends (namely Matt Maust of Cold War Kids) to help with his new project, Coromandelles. The result is pretty excellent, offering up a handful of new tracks with a differing glimpse into his ideas of rock n’ roll. The title track for Late Bloomer’s Bloomers is definitely one of the track’s that listener’s will sink their teeth into right away; it’s got an infectious hook, but I love the quirky way the song’s set on its edge in the closing moments after the 1.5 minute mark. If you’re looking for songs that have redeeming qualities time and time again, then be sure to pick up the record on October 20th via Porch Party Records.

Field Music Return with New Single/Album

fieldmusicI don’t think there are too many bands that sound anything like Field Music, at least not in the modern landscape. Every time they release something, I’m pleasantly surprised by the influences working in their tracks, and the latest single is no different. They definitely apply a usage of groovy/funky bass lines, contrasted against tight angular guitar work and gang vocals; this track even has a nice little horn solo in its midst. They’ve titled their new record commontime, and it looks to have a release date early on in February of 2016 via Memphis Industries.

Talking Bush Dole Out More Synthy Shoe Gaze

10985452_972065632817810_534559458577711871_nWe’ve been on your tail about getting into Talking Bush, from the lovely Shelflife Records label, and I’m pleased to share with you yet another jam of a single from the band. Below, you’ll find “Desperate,” which shows just how much they deserve to be on your radar. It’s got all the elements of a classic new wave synth pop jam, plus these richly deep vocals which juxtapose the whole thing. As we’ve been telling you, look out for big things from Talking Bush; word on the street is they’ll be releasing a full-length sometime next year.
