Have You Met Marlon Williams Yet?

Sometimes bands hit it big overseas and don’t quite break into the North American bubble; that’s what appears to have happened with New Zealand’sMarlon Williams. But don’t you worry, he’s about to rock our world over here with the re-release of his debut album over on Dead Oceanson February 19th. Until then, you can watch the music video below for “Dark Child,” which is quite odd, but nevertheless interesting and features the folksy blend of sounds that Williams brings to his music. His vocals are reminiscent of Grizzly Bear, while the instrumentation strikes a bit more along the lines of alt-country.

New Rocker from The By Gods

We’ve had a frustrated week thus far, so this song from The By Gods comes at a perfect time, for me anyways. I’ll tell you right off the bat that the band aren’t doing anything that’s going to blow you away; they’re bringing straight-ahead rock n’ roll that’s executed really well. Sometimes you just come across a track that makes you feel good, makes you feel alive…and I definitely get that vibe here. If this is the sort of thing they bring to the table, then their album Get On Feelings looks to be a rocking good time…and there’s nothing wrong with that.

ATX Spotlight: New Music from Cross Record

This new single is one of my favorites on the newCross Recordalbum. I think the biggest thing for me is the slight bit of static that slightly crackles through your speakers; it seems like some sort of distant message that’s slowly making its way to your ears. Compound that with the varying textures/layers place atop the vocals then you’ll end up with a very avant bit of craftsmanship. I mean, even the explosive IDM touch at the very end is spectacular. Look for Wabi Sabion January 29th via Ba Da Bing.
