Another Hit from Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

rbcfMan, is this record out yet? If you hadn’t notice, we’ve been clamoring for Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever with every single they unleash from their forthcoming mini-album. I feel like this tune offers a glimpse at more dynamism in their songwriting, shining things off for a bit of Springsteen or Vile feel to it. I will say there’s definitely polish on this one, presented differently than their other tunes, so I hope it makes for an encouraging final listen when Talk Tight finally hits…you know, a little of this, a little of that; it’ll be available on March 25th.

Having Fun? No? Listen to Hudson Bell

hudsonbellOver the last whoever knows how long, band’s have been trying to sound like they’re DIY or lo-fi. Sometimes it’s a success, sometimes you can tell it was a preconceived notion, but with Hudson Bell it feels real. Whether that was the intention or not, it sounds imperfect in the most enchanting way possible. By no means will you hear the polish, but the music still contains the hooks that implore listeners to come back time and time again to their favorite songs. The band is set to release their new effort, Yerba Buena, on April 22nd, so have fun with this tune before we get there!

New Single & Video From Fruit Bats

unnamed (16)Over the years I’ve made plenty of posts on this site about Fruit Bats and their Americana sound. Today I’m pleased to share with you a brand new single from Eric Johnson and company entitled “From A Soon-To-Be Ghost Town”. Once again the listener is treated to a unique take on the indie folk/country genre. The driving and rambling sounds make me want to head out on the open road.

Fruit Bats will releaseAbsolute Loser on May 13th via Easy Sound Recordings.

Electro Pop from Fountaineer

fountaineerWay back in the early 00s, when I was sneaking into SXSW showcases, I caught this really incredible band, Soviet. While everyone was playing guitar-driven dance music, they were using old school synths; they were my favorite act for awhile. Now comes Fountaineer, sounding oddly similar; they employ the same beat structure, as well as some of the same sonic touches I remember. The music is catchy, but a little hint of darkness makes it perfect for snobby music fans. It’s a brand new single from the Aussie band, so sit back and enjoy this delightful tune.

Ancient River Now an ATX Band

ariverMy homie Lankford has posted about psychedelic rock band Ancient River a few times in the past and I’ve been a fan of the band for awhile as well. With that said, you can imagine our combined excitement when we just got word that the band is planning a big move to the best city in the world (Austin duh). So now an ATX band, the duo will be looking to flesh out their sound with a 3rd member while they wrap up two new albums worth of material. Very excite!

Though I don’t have new music to share today, you should check out their last album,Keeper of the Dawn, in full below. New music is coming soon.

New Grace Vonderkuhn Tune

graceThe last time we heard from Grace Vonderkuhn she was blasting the distorted guitars through our ears on her self-titled EP. But, this new track sees Grace exploring some new ground, which definitely is holding tightly on to my ears. There’s a really simple beat that repeats throughout the track, holding the song in place; her voice has clearly been strengthened, bringing about pop notes that might not have been as evident on her earlier work. This song has me looking forward to what she brings to the table in the near future, so keep your ears peeled for more work from this 24 year old.

Fresh La Sera Single

laseraNot only does La Sera have a new record coming out, but the band, primarily the work of Katy Goodman, now has a new sound, courtesy of her husband, Todd Wisenbaker. On this single, we get a perfect view of the dynamic between the two as they trade choruses back and forth. Musically, the band seem to have removed some of the more punk-influenced riffs in favor of a broader, more classic sound; it’s feels like an old school MTV hit to me. The new LP, Music for Listening to Music To, will be released by Polyvinyl Records on March 4th.

More From Death By Unga Bunga

10421190_10152244032739607_7207164850591993273_nIt wasn’t too long ago that I shared with you a track from Norwegian garage rockers, Death By Unga Bunga, but they’ve just debutedanother killer number off their upcoming record. This number, “Lady Fondue,” will delight those who like their garage rock rambunctious and energy-charged, complimented withquirky lyrics that may bring a sly smile to your face whenever you’re not singing along. And just like any good fuzzy rock song, it’s complete with a sweet shredding guitar solo to round things out. Seriously, if you haven’t given this band a shot, your time is now. Be sure to catch their North American debut,Pineapple Pizza, which is out March 4th viaJansen Plateproduksjon.

Keep It Local: New Video From Holy Wave

Zuma_Holy_Wave_Home_720If you somehow haven’t caught psych rockers Holy Wave somewhere about town, then it’s time you sit on down and got up close and personal. The best way to do that is to watch this video that the band just premiered below for the track, “California Took My Bobby Away” which features what appears to be a night out on Dirty Sixth. The track is a hazy blurof psychedelic rock in the best kind of way. Their new LP, Freaks of Nurture, will be out March 11th via The Reverberation Appreciation Society. Preorder it here.
