Throwback Rock From Blowout

unnamedI don’t know about everyone else, but I’m struggling to make it through what has turned into a longer week than it needed to be. My spirits are lifted a bit though as I listen to this new single “Green Couch” from Portland based pop group Blowout. This one is seriously reminding me of my days with ATX based group Cruiserweight with the strong female vocals and pop punk sounding music driving the song. I’ve long been a fan of music like this and you can consider me a fan of this song.

Blowout will drop No Beer, No Dad on August 5th via Lauren Records.

Add Some Noise To Your Day With Lazy Legs

12322715_920387561411444_3099514226370434551_oI’m all about finding a track of the day that begs to be turned up at full volume and then getting in my car to go to work and blasting said tune to its proper level of sound. Today’s tune that begs you to turn it up loud is called “Open” from Lazy Legs, who hail from Chicago. This track is a full on shredder, perfectly noisy and raucous, bringing you just enough lo fi fuzz on the guitars while the percussion rages awayunder it all with crashing cymbals.

Lazy Legs’ debut album, Visiondeath, will be out July 15th and you can preorder it here through their band camp page. There you can also hear another great single from the band called “Sparks.” Blast through your Wednesdaywith the band.

Ghost Wave Brings You a Light Psychedelic Jam

11146495_10153285912809496_8047713030380912306_nGhost Wave are a two piece out of Auckland who are making psych rock that will have you jamming hard. They released this track, “All U Do is Kill” a short while back, but we somehow missed it, so it’s pertinent that I share it with you. I’m loving the way this track unwinds as it goes, with psych synths streaming in and out of the mix while the vocals are fuzzy and falsetto, adding a breezy feel to the otherwise grungey and gritty funk-rock. Take a listen and watch out for the impending music video for this song, which should be out sometime soon.

Local Love: Wildfires Share New Shoegazey Single

wildfiresATX’s very own Wildfires have got a new single out today that is well worth your time. The track, called “The Lame,” is available for you to download below, and it features everything we loved about the band when they released their last single, “Canelo” about a month ago. It’s got this pleasing shoe-gaze esque sound to it from the start when the guitars jangle in to the song. Later on, you get this laid back break down from the group that will have you returning again and again to the song. Take a listen, enjoy, and then look out for their upcoming release,Aguas Frescas Pt. II, which is out August 26th.

And Now For Something Different: Kllo

unnamed-45We here at ATH have a type, and we typically post music that follows along those lines. So when I heard this new track from Kllo, I was taken aback at how much it roped me in. “Walls to Build,” the single below, is a electronic jam with heavy R&B influences that will bust its way into your cold dead indie rock heart with its cool, simmering vibes. Kllo are a two piece out of Melbourne, and they’re on the cusp of releasing a new EP calledWell Worn, and it’ll be out August 5th via Ghostly International. Take a listen and if you’re digging up the simplistic, yet elegant jam, preorder that EP here.

Get Dreamy With The Saxophones

1501666_833023450074955_5070952818094037727_nOakland based The Saxophones just sent me this new single “If You’re on the Water” this morning and I had to share it with the world. It’s a very dreamy, very repetitive, and totally meditative type of song. For me, it’s been a perfect start to what is a cloudy and kind of gloomy Tuesday morning. Hopefully this is just the beginning of more great things to come.

Fans can purchase this song as part of a new EP available on July 19th. Picture disc!

More From Ranch Ghost

unnamedOnly about a month ago we shared with you the first single from Nashville based Ranch Ghost and today I’m ready to share another impressive song. This one is entitled “Black Caboose” and features more of that sweet psych inspired sound we already loved about the band. I can actually picture the guys playing this song live in my mindwith these snarling vocals and fist pumping punk themes underneath. I dig.

Lookin will be out on July 1st via Rough Beast Records.

Slacker Rock From Gap Dream

unnamed (1)Wasn’t I just saying something this morning about how impressive Burger Records has become with picking up new talent and sharing their music with the world? Well they are at it again in a short span of a few hours with this new single and album from previously ATH approved band Gap Dream. The tune is a meandering bit of slacker style indie rock music with an entrancing little guitar diddy carried on throughout the song. Carry on dude.

New album This is Gap Dream will be out on July 22nd via Burger Records.

Show Review: Refused @ The Mohawk (6/5)

NickRad Refused 32Photo Ed Notes: I would like to welcome Nick Radcliffe to the family. He is damn good photog and knows how to use a keyboard, too (click that link to his site, the landscapes might be my faves). Nick was college roomies with Mike, the other half of the adventure that is Austin Town Hall Records. We’ve talked plenty about getting him shooting for us as the new day job has me quite occupied. The Coathangers rule, we keep our eyes on Residual Kid, Plague Vendor is new to us in the live setting and Refused are a thing. So on to Nick’s first pics post and review. -bgray

The Mohawk is easily one of the best music venues in Austin, so it’s only fitting that one of the best concert line-ups of late converts the venue in to a temple dedicated to the shape of punk to come.

Click through for pics and more on the bands and jams…

Edgy Rocker From Lumps

1453320_1121735791169747_5674497852106917664_nBrooklyn rock n roll band Lumps make a brand of rock music self-described as sick party rock. If you check out their latest single “Sleep Tight” below, I think you will likely agree with that self assessment. I’m personally reminded of a band like Wavves with just a bit of edge to their rock n roll sound. Welcome to the party Lumps.

Lumps will release a new tape entitled Curses June 24th via King Pizza Records. (pre-order here)
