More From Quiet the Pilot

L.A. based songwriter Ryan Moore and his project known as Quiet the Pilot caught my ear towards the beginning of this month and I’ve been enjoying him ever since. Today he’s peaked my interest again with this new track called “Stan the Man”. I’m reminded immediately of my late 90s/early 2000s indie emo bands like The Promise Ring as the song sort of meanders here and there in a most chilled out way. I suggest you check it out now.

Start Monday with Alexander F

Alex Toth has enlisted the help of some heavy hitters, with his new project Alexander F featuring members of Perfect Pussy, Skaters and Here We Go Magic (all bands we like). There’s almost a krautrock drive to the opening moments of the band’s new single, with lyrics seemingly stepping on top of each other. But, through the track’s progression, you’ll hear that burst of pop that you were hoping someone would run to kick off your Monday. It’s a pretty welcoming statement, letting us all enjoy in the power that pop music has to offer. The self titled album will be out on February 10th, so with this track, listen, rinse and repeat.

Stream the Pollen Rx and Celebrate at Cheer Up Charlies

Yesterday, Bullett Magazine blessed us by streaming the Pollen RX debut LP, Sunbelt Emptiness; there’s even a great interview with members of the band that help detail the ideas behind the record….read about it HERE. But, we also wanted to make sure you have it in as many places possible, so we felt like we should also include the stream below, with a way to pick it up from us here at ATH Records. Plus, even better news is that the band will be blasting these great tunes by celebrating with their friends tomorrow night over at Cheer Up Charlies. You should come out and get your hands on a copy, or just simply enjoy the great tunes! Album is below…grab it while its hot!

More Pop from Ela Minus

Just a few weeks ago I was introduced to Ela Minus, and we’re already back again with a really nice bit of pop music for Friday. Personally, I love the restraint that is shown in Gabriela Jimeno’s work; she could easily drop the bass or pump the electronic touches into the mix, but she holds back, delightfully. It creates this spectacular emotional appeal that reminds me of the feather floating through Forrest Gump, airy and dreamy all at once. Her next release, Adapt, will be out on February 17th via Yebo Music, ready to carry you off.

Gabriella Cohen Signs to Captured Tracks

This song and announcement deserves some love today, even if you’ve already heard Gabriella Cohen‘s Full Closure and No Details. Captured Tracks just announced they’ve added the Aussie songwriter to their stable, after already adding the smoky voice of Molly Burch. Here, there’s a bit more of a dreamier aspect in Cohen’s voice, with the music reminiscent of a polished Shannon and the Clams; the chords hide in the background and backing vocals harmonize with the natural melody. I’m in, so I’ll definitely be picking up a copy of the record when it’s reissued on March 3rd.

Sun Voyager Return With Another Banger

Brooklyn based rockers Sun Voyager is a band that has long earned praise here on ATH. Their music is always heavy and always rocking, similar to bands like Ty Segall or even local group Swords. Today they’ve shared with me this incredible new track “Trip”. If you were dragging on your Friday morning, this song will surely wake your ass up and set you right. Enjoy.

Sun Voyager will be releasing their debut self-titled LP soon. Stay tuned.

Dig on New Music from The Dig (SXSW Artist)

The Dig have graced our pages here before, and with this new single, I’m still backing the band as a group built for success in 2017. On this tune, the band continues their musical shape-shifting, channeling a blend of glam and new age psychedelia. Piano work allows for the song to sustain a natural bounce to it, with guitars and added synths circling overhead. The vocals have this androgynous tone, fitting for a tune about astronauts. Their album Bloodshot Tokyo will appear on February 3rd via Roll Call Records. And, like the post says, they’ll be in attendance for SXSW this year, for those of you in Austin for the festival.

Dreamy Rock From Tashaki Miyaki

Tashaki Miyaki may not be on your radar yet, but that’s about to change quite soon. This L.A.trio are making hazy dream rock that has enough fuzz on it to soften the edges. “Girls on T.V.” is a nice slice of the kind of rock music that you’d want to hear somewhere while wearing sunglasses and sipping on a frosty beverage. The honeyed vocals provide a nice contrast to the grungey guitars, and the even-tempered beat begs you to chill out with the band for a few minutes of your day. Take a listen below and get ready for their debut album called The Dream, which will be out April 7th via Metropolis Records.

Brand New Peaness

Not sure how I let this rocker from Peaness slide under the radar, but just a few days ago the band tossed out this rad new single. I love how the song has this driving energy, though the riffs pull back just enough to keep the song from blasting away. In the chorus, you get a playful delivery that really, spun in a quick turn that almost comes off like a delightful pop rap. I almost wish these ladies would finish up an album already, but for now, enjoy a brand new 7 inch that comes out this Friday via Odd Box Records.

Did You Catch This New Video From Tim Darcy?

If you weren’t already well aware of a little band called Ought, you should probably fix that really quickly and then do some acquainting with the solo project of the lead vocalist with Tim Darcy. The best way for you to do so is by watching the video below, which is Darcy’s latest single from his upcoming solo release. “Still Waking Up” is a brief glimmer of sincerity from a voice that you’ve come toexpect cynicism and sarcasm from. It’s quite refreshing, and the music video will have you harkening back to your John Hughes cinema days. Take a listen and watch below.

Saturday Night is out February 17th via Jagjaguwar. Go pre-order that here.
