SXSW Interviews: Mt. Wolf

I am so not ready for SXSW right now… are you? Well ready or not, it’s right around the corner and we’ve all got to prepare ourselves for the oncoming party. As usual, ATH has tons of interviews lined up to help expose you to some of the acts coming into town in a couple of weeks. My first one is with British indie act Mt. Wolf. Follow the jump to see what they have to say.

Answers were given collectively by all three band members: Sebastian Fox “Bassi”, Stevie Red McMinn, and Al Mitchell.

ATH: There was a lot of hubbub last year concerning corporate sponsors and pay to play and what not at SXSW. As a band, what’s your reason for coming to pay at the festival? What do you hope to get out of it?

Mt. Wolf: We had an amazing time last year, so we know it’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re also hoping it’ll be a gateway into the US market for us, and that our live show will make an impression on American fans/industry.

ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. What’s your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?

Mt. Wolf: Play a solid set of straight-up bangers, all killer and no filler. We generally plan out a set beforehand of what we consider our best live songs.

ATH: The festival caters to music fans, but food and booze are an important aspect of the fans and the bands. What’s your band’s food and beverage of choice?

Mt. Wolf: All the Mexican food one can eat, with plenty beer and whiskey.

ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Who would you ideally like to play with of the 1000s of bands gracing our city? Make your own optimal line-up.

Mt. Wolf: Would like to play with our friends Phoria. But actually one of the line-ups we’re on is pretty awesome. Wednesday 15 March 2017 with Flamingods, Mt. Wolf, Lets Eat Grandma, Charlie Cunningham, and Meilyr Jones at Latitude 30, Austin, TX, US

ATH: Let’s say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems drunk and angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?

Mt. Wolf: We go on and play the best set of our lives, and make the drunk / angry people enjoy life again.

ATH: What’s your favorite album to come out in the last year? What’s playing in the tour bus?

Mt. Wolf: Bon Iver – 22, A Million & Phoria – Volition

ATH: Band catch phrase in 5 words or less.

Mt. Wolf: You only live once

Thanks again gents and we hope to catch you in a couple of weeks! Music sample below!
