Digging This New Thunder Dreamer Tune

I shared a tune from Indiana’s Thunder Dreamer a little while ago, so it’s only natural that since the band has put out another solid single that I share this one as well. “Living Like The Rest” is a very Shins-esque track, with dream rock climax to boot. I like the americana- bounce in the piano parts, as well as the shimmery production over the whole track. The guitars have a distinct twang to them, but also soar through the mix. Check it out below and look out for Capture from the band out May 26 via 6131 Records.

Killer Track From CYMBALS

In the usual melange of trolling for tracks, it’s rare that you click play on a new song and know instantly that you’ve found a real gem. “Decay,”from CYMBALS, is the perfect blend of shoe gaze and dance pop– think Slowdive meets The Radio Dept with a splash of The XX thrown in there. You get the building percussion throughout, but also some string work threaded in, as well as the omnipresent effervescent synths that spiral and transform kaleidoscopically. Plus you get some twangy and distant guitar to put the icing on the cake. Simply put, this track is at once beautiful and danceable and makes me beyond excited to hear what CYMBALS have in store for us on their upcoming record, Light In Your Mind, which will be out August 25th via Tough Love Records. Pre-order it here.

Minka Channel Talking Heads on New Track

In all the rehash, few bands even try to tread the groundwork put down by the Talking Heads, but while Minka might not be there quite yet, at least they’re taking a run at it. Their latest single from the forthcoming Born in the Viper Room definitely looks at Byrne-esque vocal display, though the guitar work seems to have a lighter air to it. It’s how looking back should feel, nostalgic but with promise for what’s coming up next. The group drop their latest album on May 23rd, so feel free to pencil in a good listen to see just how close these guys can get to greatness.

Let’s Have One More From Ultrviolence

It’s clear now that I can’t get enough of this new music from Calgary based post-punk band Ultrviolence. Man behind the project Nate Jespersen has created this beautiful sound blending together the best parts ofbands like Cold Cave and Depeche Mode with some super gritty vocal delivery. His latest single, “Dead Bedrooms”, finds many of those same elements coming through and I’m once again pleased as punch to hear more.

The Forty Knives EP drops on May 12th via Northern Lights Records.

One More from Romantic States

Dammit I love Romantic States. I was just in the doldrums about the lack of hits I’ve found in my daily search of the net, then this gem sneaks up on me. Heavy distorted guitars ring out loud, but there’s a soft underbelly delivered from the vocals that gives a perfect balance to the track. I can’t help but feel the youthful vibrance this track exudes, energizing me here early in the morning. Already feel this album creeping into my Top Ten list for the year; you’re going to want to get your hands on Corduroy in Italy next Friday when it hits via Gentle Reminder.

J Bengoy Offers New Music

J Bengoy is an old-school feeling act, though they’re a fairly new band from Vermont. They grabbed my by offering up a Beulah comparison…a sure fire way to get me to listen. I can definitely sense that style in their work, especially in the way the chorus is delivered, heavy on hooks and harmony. There’s a slight twang to the vocals on display, though they hold just enough melody to keep your ears close to the speaker. Something wicked awesome is brewing up their in Vermont, so stay tuned as I hope to bring you more news from this act in the near future.

Who Are the Lovebirds

To be honest, I have no idea about The Lovebirds, other than I came across a tune they recently released that fed into my Soundcloud feed. But, for what its worth, I don’t think that matters one bit, as the song’s going to be one of my favorite tracks this week. It’s got this bleeding distorted riff that rocks the opening section, then settles into a slight jangle before the vocals take on a relaxed vibe for the song. As they song pushes towards the chorus it builds just a touch, readying your ears for the knifing guitar pop solo that squalls through your speakers. You get fed a lot of tunes, so why not just enjoy something real real good.

Brand New Tunabunny Tune

You’d be excused if Tunabunny haven’t quite landed on your radar, but you’d also be missing out on one of indie rock’s special secrets. They’re set to release their 5th album, a 28 song double LP titled PCP Presents Alice in Wonderland Jr, hitting on June 23rd via HHBTM. Rumor has it that this is their response to the White Album, and our first listen should put you on notice that you’re in for a great ride. The subtle groove working beneath the track is sublime, but the vocals have this seductive sugar to it that allows the band to walk the fine line between artand pop sensibility. If you can’t find yourself falling head over heels for this tune, then I think your speakers are broken.
