Digging This New Hypoluxo Track

Easily my favorite track from the last few days has to be this new one called “Sometimes” from Brooklyn based Hypoluxo. The song talks a lot about being lazy and wanting to stay inside, but the music offers a bit of a contrast to that with bright guitars and an almost dreamy feel. It reminds me quite a bit of bands like Beach Fossils or Real Estate, though the deep and heavy vocals offer some the band can call their own. Ya feel me.

Hypoluxo will release new EP Taste Buds via Broken Circles on August 4th.

Try Some Alt-Rock From Prism Tats

Sometimes a song doesn’t quite do it for you on first listen, but then catches your ear more and more with each play. Right now this new one called “Used to be Cool” from L.A. based artist Prism Tats is one of those songs. It has a very old school feel to it with rocking guitars and a very anthemic, loud feel. I find myself wanting to get up and dance along, and I don’t dance…

Prism Tats will release 11:11 on July 28th via Anti Records.

Loving This New Dinner

I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed a live set like the one Dinner put on a few years ago at SXSW; both odd and captivating…and I’ve since sworn allegiance. He just announced the release of his newest album, New Work, accompanied with a brand new video for the album’s first single. I like the light quality to it, drifting little beats while Anders sings atop with his deep tones. It’s high time you indulge yourself in the greatness that is Dinner; the new LP drops on September 8th via Captured Tracks…plus some tour dates throughout October, including an Austin date!

Another Brand New Gambles Track

Man, I just cannot wait until this new Gambles drops, and I think you’ll all be equally impressed, especially considering the people he has working with him (J. Tillman, D. Vanderveld, etc). This track opens up simply enough, mostly with vocals and guitar; there are little bits of strings and keys tinkering away too. Just before the 2 minute mark, the song swells, turning the folk track into a pop opus that’s some of the best work he’s done. Not sure when Let Us Be drops officially, but you can rest assured it’s going give the man the credit he’s due.

Show Pics: Caroline Says and Growl @ ABGB

This show was a while back. I brought along the camera just for fun, even through it was a date night/friend dinner, as I hadn’t shot at ABGB. I figure I might as well share pics even though I am still learning a new camera system. On tap, besides the beer, was Caroline Says and ATH Records‘ own Growl. Both bands are chock full of familiar friendly faces. So, delicious pizza, great beer, wife, friends that joined for dinner, Team ATH Records, two solid sets in a unique venue, lovely evening had.

ICYMI: New(ish) White Reaper Cover

I’m kind of a big fan of anything that White Reaper does, so I’m pretty sad I missed this cover when it dropped last week. Better late than never though, right? White Reaper have have seemingly doubled their already high octane energy on this Deep Purple cover of “Highway Star.” They’ve chosen a more straightforward cover approach, but they still add their own punk-flair to the rock-n-roll track. Take a listen below and hear for yourself.

The band’s sophomore effort, The World’s Best American Band, came out earlier this year. Have you given it a listen?

More From Wilt

Taylor Malsey, and his project know as Wilt, has been giving us some slick jams this summer. Today he’s bringing us yet another new tune for your enjoyment called “Scurried”. It’s yet another hushed, quiet track which manages to capture one’s attention despite the minimalist sound. Repeated plays will reveal more and more things to enjoy so I suggest you get it started now.

Debut album Hand Mirror is out on August 4th via Good Cheer Records.

Dreamy New Hit From Alvvays

Alvvays have shared a new tune from their upcoming album and it’s dream-pop at its finest. “Dreams Tonite” is a soaring hit, with shimmering synths that pave the way and Molly Rankin’s impossibly clean vocals leading the charge. Not to mention there’s that choral hook that is sure to firmly lodge itself in your brain for days on end. I didn’t think I could be more excited for the release of their sophomore effort,Antisocialites, after they dropped the first single, “In Undertow,” but this has done the job. Take a listen below and then go pre-order their new album right here. It’s out September 8 via Polyvinyl.

French Pop from Mina Sang

How does one attach themselves to a song in a foreign tongue? Well, perhaps if you’re an anglophile like myself, you’ll wonder the same question when you listen to this tune from French singer Mina Sang. There’s an understated production backing her voice…simple drumming, a slight synth bounce. But, as simple as that may seem, her voice has completely won me over; it has these soft tones, even as she reaches for higher notes. Don’t know much else, but you better love this track!

New Video From No Win

We’ve been giving out some love to No Win this year, so why not stop now? The band’s got a new video for their track, “Crooked Heart,” which you can check out below. In store for you is a strange trip in a car, with the driver being someone donning the classic nun getup. I’m not really sure what’s going on here, but it seems like waking up from a bender sort of experience. Regardless, the track is a great alt-rock tune, with distorted guitars and soft vocals. Take a peek below.
