Another Hook Laden Hit from Blush

It’s a shame that Blush are releasing their debut album this Friday. I only mean that in the sense that a month earlier and it would have been almost guaranteed a spot in many year-end lists, including my own. Opening with a casual bit of guitar, the song quickly seduces listeners with Maura’s vocal performance; she’s got this natural cool that just pours through your speakers…the sort of assured indifference made for rock stars. A sly little beach pop nod at the end, and the song is over, leaving you to seek out more…and you can have just that when the group release their self-titled LP Friday via Arrowhawk.

Continually Impressed by Hello Paris

Hello Paris has been on my radar for some time, crafting these bouncing indiepop hits coated in atmospheric washes; it’s precisely what we get with the brand new single that just peaked its head up. Immediately, the drums dance your way into the track, quickly joined by jangling little guitar lines. The vocals, while not entirely clear, add a further texture to the tune, giving it that cool beach vibe we all adore…especially now that Winter is creeping in to our lives. Not entirely sure where this tune will fall in the release schedule of the band, but as of now, you don’t want to sleep on this gem.

Seazoo Ready Their Debut Album, Drop New Single

Having already written about the forthcoming Seazoo album, I’d be remiss if I didn’t drop this new single. While it opens noisily, all things considered, the group settle into a subtle groove, riding guitar lines and shared vocal duties. There’s a noisy little ambling in the song’s mid-point, allowing the group to flex their songwriting chops. But, little keyboard notes trickle in, joined by the male/female vocal duet, crashing down in pure pop fashion, taking us to the song’s end. Another little ditty that pretty much guarantees the band will have a hit on their hands when Dig is released on January 26th.

Lionlimb Announce New Album/Video

Lionlimb, comprised of Stewart Bronaugh andJoshua Jaeger, have announced that they’ve signed to Bayonet Records. With this announcement, they’ve shared the first video from this album for the track, “Maria,” which is a six minute twenty second sonic journey through several different genres. What strikes me most about this track is the orchestral elements that sweep through the mix and carry the song with grace and delicacy. You have a solid indie rock song for sure, but there’s this extra layer of beauty that makes it hard not to slip into the song. Slightly Late To The Party: New Track From QTY

Sometimes, you find a solid indie rock jam that made its way into the blogosphere a few days ago, but is just too tasty not to share. So if you’re like me and are a little behind the times, I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to QTY, a group out of New York who are about to release their debut album on Dirty Hit on December 8. The track they’ve recently released is called “Cold Nights” and it’s an infectious pop/rock song. The guitar part is cutty, chipping its way through the number, while the vocals are classic indie rock, leading to a catchy chorus you won’t soon forget. Check it out below.

 

Grace Vonderkuhn Will Rock This Joint

Just when I thought Egghunt Records couldn’t deliver me anymore badass new albums, they do it once again with a new release from Delaware based artist Grace Vonderkuhn. Her new single is called “Worry” and appears on her brand new album coming in February. The track is a rocking one with some clear sounds similar to fellow lady rockers like Screaming Females or gents like Ted Leo. A couple of comparisons like that must let you know that Mrs. Vonderkuhn receives the ATH seal of approval.

Reveries will be available on February 23rd via Egghunt Records.

Say Hello To Blue J

It’s always nice to hear from old friends in bands when you weren’t sure if they’d parted ways with the music game. Today my rekindled musical relationships comes by way of old pal Justice McLellan who formerly fronted the Canada based outfit Ruby Coast. If you don’t remember those guys, they played an ATH SXSW showcase for us many many moons ago. Well now Justice is working on a new project called Blue J and he just sent us over this nice new track “Early Show”. It’s definitely a hushed beauty sort of song built beautifully over a multitude of layers and intricate sounds. We’ll be sure to share more as we know more.

Check Out Dallas Friends Kyoto Lo-Fi

Sometimes we can all use a little bit of feel good indie pop music with dashes of garage rock right? If that sounds like your sort of bag, this new single “Godot” from Dallas based Kyoto Lo-Fi should be right up your alley. Imagine if you will a band mixing some vocal and guitar elements of The Strokes with pop tendencies like Devo. Calvary Is From Liverpool

Sometimes you just need some solid UK based Indie Rock.

For fans of: Elbow, The National

Cavalry is a band from Liverpool that takes in a ton of what I like about a well-crafted indie tune. They have an EP out today available to preview in the streaming world to listen to, use this thing called a hyperlink, via Fierce Panda called See The Night Perform. The EP was produced by Darren Jones how previously worked with The Last Shadow Puppets and you can pick that out in this track called “Heresy”.
