SXSW Interview: Seazoo
It’s Friday, so let’s travel overseas with our SXSW Interviews today. Last year, Seazoo released Trunks, and what a listen it was. It was one of those albums you couldn’t put down, and then it makes you wonder how the whole machine works when barely a word was uttered about it overseas. Well, here they are, read all about it.
ATH: Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
Seazoo: Hello everyone, we’re SEAZOO from lovely sunny North Wales, UK.
ATH: Describe your groups sound.
Seazoo: Full of jaunty harmonies, wonky keys and melodic riffs to sink your teeth into, a delightfully poppy racket – M Magazine.
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases from 2019?
Seazoo: We released our debut album TRUNKS last year and the new album is on its way!
ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. Whats your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?
Seazoo: The set is done, we’re prepped, we’ve been working out downthegym and we’re ready to smash it!
ATH: Lets say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrashmetal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?
Seazoo: Ha, tough one, but we’d try our best to turn it around with some gentle jogging on the spot, followed by a shot of tequila for everyone then hit them with our set.Plus, we’d stress that we’d travelled half way around the earth and just CHILL OUT OK??!!!!!
ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. What band friends will be here?
Seazoo: Luckily we have a great line-up at The FOCUS Wales stage (Swan Dive, 13th March). We’re on at 8pm but there’s some good friends playing this. Including Kidsmoke and Boy Azooga. Also, lookingforwardto catching loads of otherbands on our radar!
ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?
Seazoo: There’s such a mix in what we listen to. Currently, I’d say Parquet Courts, Bodega, Courtney Barnett.
ATH: Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Whos headlining? Wheres it take place? Etc.
Seazoo: Green Man in Wales is definitely one of our favourite festivals so lets stick with that.
Headliners:- Friday – SEAZOO. Saturday – SEAZOO. Sunday – SEAZOO. Ha!!
ATH: Whats on the bands rider? If were bringing you food and booze, what can we bring you?
Seazoo: I’d say pizza is always a band favourite. Beer/Cider/a nice drop of red wine perhaps.Dan, our guitarplayerloves a bit of Rum.
ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?
Seazoo: We’re from North Wales – not really clued up on Tacos.
Maybe a welsh filling – leeks, potatoes, swede, corned beef, onion – call it Taco Cawl (StewTaco).
Hopefullywe’ll beTacoconnoisseursby the end of SXSW!
