Buoyant Rock From Moon Loves Honey

Moon Loves Honey is a band from Aarhus, Denmark and who have a new video out for their track, “Oceanbird,” as you’ll see below. The song centers around the wall-of-sound very full mix of hazy vocals, shimmery drums, bouncing bass, I’m particularly fond of the section of the song that begins around the two minute mark, where the track takes a bit of a turn towards the psychedelic–super distorted guitars wind their way through and everything hits you altogether in waves of start and stop goodness. Take a peek at the awesome animated video below and fall in love with Moon Loves Honey.

Enjoy This One From LOCALS

LOCALS is a moniker used by the talented London based songwriter Peech Panko. As the only member of his band, it’s even more inspiring when you hear a great song like this new one “Talkboy”. Peech has created something in the garage rock vein of Wavves/Cloud Nothings, but with a much more polished sound and pop sense. It’s a short banger you should listen to now.

LOCALS will be working on an EP for release sometime later this year.

Loving This New Tune from A Fawn at Dawn

Some songs just hit home; you can’t put it into words, you can’t really explain it (though I’ll try, poorly), but you love them. The moment I pressed play on the latest A Fawn at Dawn track from their False Memory EP I was hooked. Fuzzy distortion kicked it off, turning right into those bright churning guitar chords that sparkle in your ear, all before the vocals seeped into my soul. They operate on the borderline of dream pop, but when I listen to these vocals, something in me recalls that college radio pop of the Wrens; the sort that still haunts music fans 20 years on…I think the group are on to something, so let yourself get washed away in this one.

Rocking Number from Necking

I jumped right into this Necking tune because it was delivered my way via Mint Records, a hit making outfit I can always rely upon. In the release, the word “powerhouse” was utilized, and I can’t help but think that’s the most apt descriptor I can come across. It begins with this heavy, almost grunge riff, pummeling your speakers for the first 20 seconds before slinking into this seductively bouncy pop moment; don’t get too comfortable, as the quartet are working with this ‘powerhouse’ concept. As soon as the chorus screams at you, you completely fall for it; “big mouth” is howled at you, angrily, yet when juxtaposed with the verses, you’re hooked. A powerful tune from a powerhouse quartet, who will deliver their power to you via Cut Your Teeth on July 5th.

Gorgeous Post Rocker From Heron

It was supremely rainy yesterday here in Austin, but the storms cleared right before the sun went down, and we were treated to a bath of warm sunshine in the cool spring air post torrential downpour. That phenomenon–tumultuous storms followed by the climax of light is mirrored exactly in this instrumental post-rock track from Warren, Pennsylvania’s Heron. It’s a slow building track that will surely call to mind the genius of Explosions in the Sky, but what I like most about this track is that you don’t have to wait too long before it really soars. At four minutes, you feel as though you’ve taken an epic trek with a sweet reward. Take a listen below and get ready for the release of Sun Release, the band’s sophomore LP, which will be out on July 19.

Loo Vibrant Return with Joshua Greets Death

When Look Vibrant released The Up Here Place last year, the group caught my ear, and so I’ve been paying close attention to their follow up singles, like the track lurking below. Perhaps one of my favorite things about the group is my inability to pigeonhole them with some mundane genre; this track has these arty post-punk grooves that evolve into math rock statements, eventually unfolding into these shimmering guitar chords that rise and crash. And, that’s not even drawing upon the way the vocals are elongated for each and every syllable, giving them their own sort of musical quality that comes across as hauntingly angelic. Keep an eye on these Canadian fellows.

Soaring Dream Pop From Oko Tygra

If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that we at ATH are suckers for some good dream pop. Lucky for us, the folks from Oko Tygra, a four piece out of Denver, have us covered with their new(ish) track, “Ghosts,” which is a slice of dreamy goodness. Instantly, you’re greeted with an infectious bass line, cascading acoustic guitar riffs, and perfectly toned vocals that simply shimmer in the mix. Round everything out with some “ooh-ahhs” during the chorus, and you have the fine tune that you should listen to below. “Ghosts” is taken from the band’s recently released Assistoma LP, which just came out a few weeks back on Grey Market Records. Go listen to the whole thing and pick up a copy of the vinyl on their BandCamp page. It’s clear pink!!!!

The Golden Dregs Share New Tune

Last year I spent a decent portion raving about Lafayette, the latest LP from The Golden Dregs, and it looks like 2019 might have another album in the works from Benjamin Woods and his project. We’ve got a new secret, offering up this smoky ballad, working over trickling piano lines while a throbbing pulse works beneath the mix. Benjamin delivers one of his strongest performances, though the arrangements in this song also deserve attention. I love how he’s left a lot of negative space out there, hanging and waiting to be filled…sometimes by nice cello work, other times by tinkering ivory keys; it’s a thoughtful turn in Woods’ songwriting craft, one that indicate grand ideas will be coming our way with that new album, slated for release later this year.

Fell Runner Share Funky Indie Rock Tune

Fell Runner are a four piece out of LA, who caught my attention with this new single from their upcoming LP,Talking, which is due out in June. The group has this jazzy indie rock aesthetic, with hints of the quirk of early Dirty Projectors. “Come Home,” rollicks around from the start, with its smart guitar riffs juxtaposed with the gentle lead vocals and warming “oohs” underneath. Ultimately, it’s an utterly wholesome track about missing someone that will warm your soul lyrically as well as sonically. Take a listen and have a little slice of something tender for your day from the gentlemen of Fell Runner. Talking will be out on YES PLZ this June.

You’ll Love The Oceans

The Oceans are a duo from Copenhagen who make their very own brand of dream pop, shoegaze style music. Having just released their new EP, EP II, the band is looking to drum up some positive praise for the collection with tons of new singles. This one, called “Rewind Your Mind”, features a lot of sonic noise along with a bright guitar and some synths in the background. The brightness, paired with the heavy beat drops and sludgy bass, create an almost perfect shoegaze song. Well played gents.

If you’re liking this one, you can stream the band’s entire new EP II over on Spotify.
