SXSW Interview: Elephant Stone

Amidst the talks of a possible SXSW festival cancellation, the ATH team is planning to go full steam ahead as if this thing is still going down. Even if something were to happen, it’s still fun to create SXSW playlists and talk to bands on the festival list. Today I have the pleasure of sharing with you interview responses from Montreal based outfit Elephant Stone. They have a slew of shows lined up in a couple of weeks and I’m sure they’d appreciate your presence at one or all of them. Hit the jump for more.

ATH: What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

RD: Elephant Stone from Montreal CANADA.

ATH: Describe your group’s sound.

RD: Sitarified psych-rock.

ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases from 2020?

RD: Hollow was released Valentines Day 2020. Im hoping to drop another release in late Summer 2020.

ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. What’s your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?

RD: People like sitar. We like sitar. Lets give the people sitar.

ATH: Let’s say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd is growing ancy. How would your band deal with such a situation?

RD: Play sitar and keep your head down.

ATH: There are tons of bands coming into town. Of the 1000+ bands coming into town, who would you ideally like to play with. Which band friends will be here?

RD: Wow Austin is like my second home. Ive been dear friends with the Black Angels since their inception and I was actually in the band for all of 2012 So, yeah, playing with TBA would be nice:)

ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus

RD: Too much 90s shoegaze and power pop.

ATH: Describe your perfect festival, real or not? Who’s headlining? Where’s it take place? Etc.

RD: Amazing catering, a beautiful sunset while we go into a sitarified kraut jam. On the edge of a gorge or lake.

ATH: What’s on the bands rider? If we’re bringing you food and booze, what can we bring you

RD: Gin and/or good tequila + mixers. We love our hummus and pita/veggies.

ATH: The band gets to create their own taco pop-up shop at SXSW? Whats the name, and what sort of tacos will you have? Any sides?

RD: Land of Taco specializing in Butter Chicken / Butter Paneer tacos with Kimchi!!!

Thanks again to Rishi for making the time to do this. See you in Austin!
