Eades Drop Backseat Politic

Friday, Eades will drop their much anticipated Delusion Spree LP, and to be honest, there aren’t a whole lot of folks just bringing energetic pop rock this good. From the get go, the drums roll you down the river, pounding while notes jangle their way through your speakers. The chorus celebrates euphorically, sounding as if they got the whole gang together to sing along joyously in one big old barroom. I’d take a million jams as fun and strong as what Eades are kicking out, and luckily I’ll get a solid 12 to turn up nice and loud when the album drops on Friday courtesy of Heist or Hit.

Mo Dotti Share Loser Smile

Mo Dotti‘s been bouncing around in our small circle for a few days now, and it’s definitely something we’d like on your radar. Plus, it’s got a personal touch with our old friend Joey Oaxaca doing the recording here; he executes the perfect balance between the two guitar lines allowing the rhythm to maintain the song’s gravitational pull while the other guitar sputters off into space-age dissonance. Throughout, Gina Negrini’s sweet voice serves as the sun, with everything orbiting around it; I do love when they peel back the noise to hit at a more traditional 90s guitar sound around the 3 minute mark, which is my sweet spot! The band drop their Guided Imagery EP on March 18th via Smoking Room.

SXSW Interviews: No Swoon + Wait to See Video

We’re continue to roll out our SXSW coverage this week, with a new one from No Swoon; it just so happens to coincide with the band dropping a brand new video today for their track “Wait to See,” from their forthcoming album, Take Your Time. I figure SXSW will be a great way for folks to sample the duo’s sounds, then prep their ears for the Spring release. Click below for the interview with Tasha and Zack, and at the bottom, you’ll find that new hit video!

Bright Light Social Hour Reimagine I Me Mine

I don’t usually rock a cover song, unless, like Austinites Bright Light Social Hour, the song totally reimagines things; below you can hear the group mixing up the Beatles “I Me Mine.” They take the song from its original vibe, and spin it into this funked-up dancefloor ready bouncer; the bass line just bobs and weaves, waving at you with that come hither finger to drag you onto that checkered square of vinyl. This tune fills in a gap in the band’s recording process while they flesh out their fifth studio album; they also have a slew of dates throughout Austin during SXSW, so if you’re around, get into the groove, just like this great cover!

SXSW Interviews: Colatura

The ATH team has this ever growing level of excitement building inside of us that seems to build as each week goes by and SXSW draws ever near. We are making our lists, starting to map things out a bit, and making plans on seeing many old friends from back in the “normal times”. As per usual, we are trying to get you as excited as we are so we hope these pre-interviews are helping expose you to some new bands coming into town. Today I am excited to share my latest interview with Brooklyn based trio Colatura. You can check out their interview and some music after the jump.

LIFE Share New Single, Big Moon Lake

Looks like LIFE have a new record on the way, and I’m totally stoked with this new single; it seems like their sound is hitting just at the perfect time, as folks are clamoring for this brand of punk. Mez Green’s vocal delivery comes off in that very matter-of-fact manner, his voice matching up to the rhythm; I love when he playfully gets a little out there with the tonal notes on the delivery of the line “Don’t go to Big Moon Lake.” Plus, the rhythm section just crushes on this tune, with the guitars adding this harrowing shriek that builds on the band’s noisiness. North East Coastal Town will be out on June 10th via Liquid Label.

Levoneh Shares A Song for Martin Selig

Wanted to toy with some space age folk vibes today, so we turn to Levoneh, the project of Ross Kirshebaum and friends. The band will be releasing their new LP, Ground, via Cruisin Records/Lost Sound Tapes in a few weeks, and this new tune illustrates how the project takes meandering folk tune and buries it all beneath layers of texture. At times, guitars bend or just vibrate on one note, adding this sort of jazziness; there are other moments where the percussion and atmospheric production toys with your mind, exploding before quietly receding to the background. Always enjoy adventurous brands of folk tunes! Ground drops on March 18th.

SXSW Interview: Ed Schrader’s Music Beat

This year we’re getting a fresh Ed Schrader’s Music Beat LP called Nightclub Daydreaming, and with that, we also get a bunch of performances at SXSW. We caught up with Ed to get a few words about life on the road and jump into his forthcoming shows here at SXSW. Check out this thirsty jam from the new record and read about the group below.

Nick Griffith Readies Something I Once Heard

A friend of ours sent over the latest album from Nick Griffith, and seeing as he’s an artist working out of Australia, I reckoned there’s probably not a lot of coverage for him on our side of the pond…so let’s fix that. He’s tossed out several tracks from the album, and the two below are my favorite jams to get under your skin. They’re building on the coastal pop vibes you often get from Aussie outfits, throwing in strong guitar work and sunny melodies. It’s not a stretch to see Nick fitting in with the rest of the Melbourne scene, as his songs are relaxed and charming, particularly the chorus of “Porto Song.” Something I Once Heard will be out via Dinosaur City Records on March 4th.
