Hallan Share New Banger
Portsmouth based outfit Hallan just dropped this new single called “Sich Ubergeben” today and I had to share it with the ATH fam. It features this sort of old school, Brit post-punk sound clearly inspired by the likes of older Artic Monkeys or even say Kaiser Chiefs. For me, it’s a nice kick in the chest today amongst some of the more poppy or mellow tracks floating around the webs this week. I hope you’ll give it a a listen and maybe say high to the band on their social media platforms (IG, Facebook, Twitter). “Sich Ubergeben” is available on all streaming platforms via Nice Swan Records.

Long long ago, in a city far far away, we dropped a few 7″ from Austin punk heroes,
Guess it’s a Sarah Records sort of Monday, which I’m totally okay with over here. After the Useless Users announcement, let’s turn our attention to

Pretty busy week over at ATH, jammed out to bunches of bunches of tunes, plus did a nice little quick wrap-up of what’s going on in the Austin scene. Our friends Dummy continued their world domination with their great new single from Sub Pop, plus we got some new tracks from forever faves Slow Rosary, Alex Dupree and Scarves…not to mention a bunch of newer acts we’re starting to fall in love with, like Blue Cove and Cusp. Check out the jams and enjoy your Monday my friends.

Despite countless trends pointing elsewhere, timeless pop music is always in fashion, particularly over here. So, here we are with a brand new single from The Special Pillow, an acts that’s been at it for nearly 30 years, and counts Yo La Tengo as huge supporters. Listening to this brand new single, I’ve got all sort of things running through my head, at least when I’m thinking of comparisons. At times, the guitars play into the jangling pop that’s working its way around with the likes of the Umbrellas or Boys with Perpetual Nervousness. But, ultimately this band sounds to me like New Pornographers if they were able to tighten their sound (they always felt overly noisy in spots). The pop bops are noticeable in between jangles, and this tune uses multiple layers of vocals to seduce the listeners. In the end, timeless pop music is made by great songwriting, and The Special Pillow has that for days…Mind Wipe EP is out in September via Zofko.
