Old Moon Announce Under All Skies EP

In listening to the latest track from Old Moon, there’s this sense of pushing through it all, wether that’s just getting through the day or overcoming obstacles. This track, much like a jangling version of Bruce Sprinsteen has a sense of putting on your boots and getting on with life. It’s the perfect mixture between a classic pop rock sensibility and a more modern little indiepop twist, which is why I can’t stop tapping my toes and bobbing my heavy head today. You’ll be able to do the same by pressing play below, or simply jumping over to Relief Map Records and ordering the Under All Skies EP, out September 16th.

Playful Pop Tune From Nancy

Brighton based artist NANCY really hit the ATH pages a couple of years ago with the artful and quirky pop release of the EP, Happy Oddities. After the EP, NANCY also dropped a “mini-LP” last year, to much fanfare from most of the biggest music publications out there. While most have been focused on some of the bigger things going on in the music world today, I was a little giddy when I saw a new LP announcement from NANCY along with the drop of this new single “Judy”. It’s straight up just a near perfect indie pop song worthy of a whole bunch of repeat listens. Check it out below.

Blame Recordings will be releasing the official debut LP from NANCY, entitled English Teacher, on October 28th.

Self Improvement Reissue Visible Damage

Floating Mill Records has been releasing some great stuff over the last few years, though most of it came from defunct projects. But, the label just signed on to re-release the incredible Self Improvement debut LP, Visible Damage. Over the course of ten tracks, you find yourself on pins and needles, riddle with anxiety as the band frantically throw down jagged riffs with jittering art-rock grooves. Jett’s vocals give you a bit of that spoken-post-punk vibe, though there seems to be a sort of sinister vibe to it, matching with the musical vibe punching through. I mean, the album is worth it alone for the incredible cover of Prodigy‘s “Firestarter.” Just spend some time with the release, and if you dig, then grab that re-issue right away!

Kramies Share Owl and the Crow Video

If you’re looking for that emotionally transportive tune for your day, then might I suggest you invest a little bit of time in this new track from Kramies. Both the video and the song begin in sort of a dense fog, a sort of blur on the edges of an acoustic strum, setting you up for a track that will weave its way in and out of your speakers. An emphatic chorus gives off a heavenly little buzz, aided by an accompanying vocal accent; it allows for the song to push the limits of your expectations, feeling the tune swell through your speakers despite the intimate nature of the acoustic strum. There’s something haunting here too, particularly when listened with the accompanying film, as you never seem able to completely focus, like you’re just barely holding the song in your consciousness before it seeps into the inner-workings of your mind. If you dig, Kramies, the band’s new LP will be out on September 9th via VanGerrett Records.

Alvvays Release Easy On Your Own

Listening to this new Alvvays tune really illustrates why the group have continued to rise in prominence through their career. With each album, they’ve taken some touchstones from their first effort, though they’ve spun them towards being crossover pop hits at the same time. This latest single is no different, filled to the brim with noise and distortion, then balanced on a razor’s edge with a smashing blast of pop; the sheer volume work here is definitely an added tool, illustrating the band’s thoughtfulness in recording as they toy with the expectations of breaking out of the indiepop mold. Blue Rev will be out in October via Polyvinyl.

Cool Sounds Drop 6 or 7 More Video

First notes from Cool Sounds latest single definitely serve to remind us that the band has switched gears, digging out from the jangle pop side of the realm in order to give us a little more of a hip-shaking vibe. Pumping in a funky R&B groove right off the bat to set this song up is perfect, you’re instantly transported to a solid strut down the street, giving out high fives and hand shakes with confidence. Once the vocals kick to match up with the shuffling riffs, things continue to get funkier, almost spinning towards disco, albeit one with just a little bit of punk ethos thrown into keep the kids coming back. Add in that female vocal with its retro robotic nature and this song takes on futuristic and R&B and spins it into a new wile web. Like That will be out on October 7th via Chapter Music.

Abraxas Share Sunrise State (Of Mind)

Abraxas is the psych pop duo of Carolina Faruolo (ex-Los Bitchos) and Lee Blackwell of Austin’s own Night Beats. With Faruolo bringing her Uruguayan roots of cumbia and psych rock, paired with Blackwell’s soul and R&B inspirations, the duo has managed to create their very own brand of cumbia/reggaeton vibing psych rock. What may sound like a mess of genres, comes across focused, playful and downright catchy as hell on the duo’s lead single “Sunrise State (Of Mind)”. Seriously, I think Blackwell and Faruolo have just created a whole new genre I’m calling cumbia psych. It’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Abraxas will be releasing a debut album entitled Monte Carlo on October 28th via Suicide Squeeze Records.

The Dare Share Girls

As previously mentioned, I’m in a hyper-dance/pop mode today, trying to ramp myself up, energetically. Luckily, Fire Talk continue their Open Tab project with this hook-laden jam from The Dare. As soon as you press play you’re going to immediately recall that early 00s era of NYC, with acts like the Rapture or !!! and LCD; it’s a club banger, albeit one with some interesting lyrical content. I just want to turn it up real loud and bounce around my room right now until I’ve spent all this energy from my two cups of coffee!

Pleased To Meet You: Morgana

Little is known about the Florence, Italy based band Morgana other than the limited information I can find on their bandcamp and facebook accounts. They appear to have a limited number of releases, with just a few singles and demos available online from the last couple of years. What I do know is that I am absolutely loving the sound of their latest single called “Arianne”. It’s part of a bigger collections of recordings under the title Contemporaneita which is an absolute stunner of raw, energy filled post-punk tunes. You can actually stream that 7 song album on bandcamp and even pick up a physical LP copy from the Australian based label Low Ambition Records. A solid start from a young band.

The Vacant Lots Share Thank You

The world of music is filled with juxtapositions, so when I turned on this track from the Vacant Lots, I expected the tune to really drive forward with the propulsive electronically manufactured groove. That’s the easy move, right? Instead, the group hold onto a more complex pop feel, morphing the sound into something that feels nostalgic, while simultaneously sucking you into this dance vibe. It’s the sort of late-night feel that twists and turns you about, more primal than danceable, and sometimes, your body just feels the moves and you flail about in ecstasy. You’ll find this tune on Closure, their new LP, out in September via Fuzz Club Records.
