Meet the SXSW Band: Cloudland Canyon

Things have been quiet on the Cloudland Canyon front for the bette part of the decade, but I was really excited to see their name pop up on the SXSW artist list. Then, after reaching out, it was even better news to find they had a new LP in the works for later this year via Medical Records. So, take some time and Meet the SXSW Band!

Whats the name of the band/group? Where are you from?

Cloudland Canyon- Memphis.

Psychedelic, Percussive, Arpeggiated.

Last release was 2016 An Arabesque on Medical Records. We have a new record out in May on Medical Records that is S/T.

Why playSXSW? Whats the draw for the band? What about this festival will bring you to Austin?

We were initially coming to play Forcefield PR’s showcase, and then added the Levitation showcase also.

There are tons of bands coming into town, but if you could create your own perfect festival, who would you have playing? Would it have a sick name? Where would it take place? Feel free to disregard the rules of time and space.

Ash Ra Temple, Cavern of Anti-Matter, Le Orme, Harumi, Hawkwind.

Obviously you have seen or heard about the issues coming up this year about fair pay for artists atSXSW? Care to offer any insight or comment?

Can I comment after SXSW?

Weve been seeing more and more artists get into the food and beverage game, whether its pierogies from Pavement or Deftones beer. If you ever got into the game, what would be your food or beverage and what would it be called?

I think I’d try my hardest to do a collaboration with Sister Schubert’s I think they need my influence on their brand.
