The Laughing Chimes Announce Vinyl Release

Breaking last week, we wanted to remind you that you’ll now get a collection of great tracks from young Ohio janglers The Laughing Chimes on vinyl. They’ve hand-picked a few tracks off their various releases to put them on in one beautiful 7″ that you’ll have spinning on your record player for some time to come. Through these three tracks, you’ll get the earnestness of the band, be that from their youth or just their enthusiasm, they’re highlighting the best of the sounds that those into the jangle realm adore. The Laurel Heights 7″ will be available from Slumberland/Prefect Records on September 22nd.

Goodgrief Shares Propane, Releases Love Birds

The minute this goodgrief song entered my headspace, I’ll honestly say it took me back to 2022 in a cabin in Yellowstone listening to Control by Pedro the Lion. You can hear the track working around a simple folk structure, but Ezekiel Rudick’s powerful voice is like the distant cousin of Bazaan, throaty and comforting at once, belting out note after note. Still, the folk structure gets smashed up a bit, offering a nice little bit of grit and attitude to a genre that can oftentimes get stuck under its own feet. Another Onyon Single from Trouble in Mind

Officially dropping on Friday, but appearing here today, this great new Onyon track is a must have for everyone’s listening pleasure. In contrast to the dark nature of “Alien Alien,” we find a bit more of a spirited punch to the opening minutes of “Egg Machine.” There’s this upswinging garage guitar work that kicks the tune into movement, driving this hook-laden rhythm right into your earholes. Still, as willing as they are to get a little playful inside their songs, there’s still a hearty growl on the vocals that give the German outfit that edge that makes them standout from many a modern peer. Last Days on Earth drops on October 13th via Trouble in Mind.

Faith Healer Share The Game Single

Faith Healer are set to release The Hand That Fits the Glove, and before the LP drops, we’ve got one last chance to hear what’s in store for listeners. This track’s a bit more of a mellow piece, in comparison to the earlier singles from the release. Black and white imagery is tied to an atmospheric wash of synths that set the backdrop for a reserved performance from Jessica Jalbert; you get a little lift around the 1:25 mark of the tune, with careful percussive elements swinging into the track to give it a hint of buoyancy. That spirit is needed, particularly when you immerse yourself into the lyrics, a rumination on the challenges many of us face interacting with the outside world without losing ourselves. You can get the new LP on October 13th via Mint Records.

If you’re a frequent reader of this here website, you know that I have been a huge fan of Paul Murphy and his musical project known as POSTDATA. He released one of my favorite albums of 2021 featuring hit single “Inside Out” while continuing to be busy this year with two straight jams over the last few months. Before he releases new album Run Wild on September 22nd, we’ve got the title track for you today to add to Murphy’s growing catalogue of hits. Single Bullet Theory to Release c. ’79 EP

There’s not much recorded material out there from Single Bullet Theory, aside from their eponymous LP…but that’s about to change, as the band are unearthing a collection of songs recored in the late 70s, titled c. ’79. In order to tease the forthcoming release, we’ve got a sneak peek at one of the outstanding tunes you’ll be able to get your hands upon. I love the perfect balance between the verses and the chorus, straddling the grit of early punk rock vibes and the anthemic pop rock that would dominate the 80s. Playful little guitar upticks give the song a bit of spirit, but you can hear the track still delving back into the band’s more raucous tendencies. This is one of those release that you’re going to just crank up, so send your thanks to Feel It Records who release the EP on September 22nd.

The Brights Share Everyone In Town

While Melbourne is getting all the Australian love (hyperbole, I know), Sydney’s the Brights are aiming to make a name for themselves on their own terms. They’ve just released a fresh single from the forthcoming Oyster Rock, offering a slight bit of country-fied swagger to the stomping pop sounds of the Oceanic region. This tune’s got this twinkling piano bit hanging about too, adding to that sort of muscly punch the group bring to the table; it’s all about this natural grooviness to me, so it feels like classic rock influenced pop rock…and I’m totally here for it. They’ll be releasing Oyster Rock via Stable Records/Meritorio on December 1st.

Cool Vibes from Crasher

Like the song’s title, you’re definitely going to get a little bit of chill from the latest tune from Crasher. Inside you’ll hear the jangling-adjacent guitar lines, subtly dropping in some energy atop the snappy whip of the drumming. But, while it feels as if you’re swirling towards energetic horizons, the vocals hold you in place a bit, with David Mead’s voice spoken in this very smoky, matter-of-fact fashion. That delivery keeps the track sort of static, holding the song in this sort of chillwave purgatory, feeling the movement, but never quite diving in the whole way. Crasher will release Speaking Terms on October 10th.

It was definitely a busy week on my end, but we pushed through and still managed to crank out some really great music for you all. RayRay got to run the sweet new album stream for Grimson‘s new LP, and I was just hopping all over the place like musical ADHD music junkie I am. Had some good power-pop from the Slow Summits and Colored Lights, to give you some energy. Some great ballad work by Austin artists Feeling Small and Daily Worker to warm and make you cry at once. Plus, I got to bump that new jam from Pachyman, not to mention our weekly dose of all the goods from Australia like Lower Plenty, Screensaver, and Vintage Crop. Stream on below, amigo!

Berlin based Grimson has really been catching our ear over in the ATH offices as of late. Already we’ve been treated to two new singles over the last few months, and now we have the entire new album to stream below! Climbing up the Chimney is a showcase of all the things that make the young Aiden Berglund a true spotlight of a songwriter in the game today. He has a delicate nature to things with folk inspirations and light hints of brightness throughout the entire album.
