Meet the SXSW Band: Tigercub
As we get closer and closer, the anticipation grows more and more for the upcoming SXSW festival right here in Austin. Preview coverage will continue to ramp up in the days ensuing as we receive more preview materials from participating bands. Today we are pleased to share our third peek into the life of a musician with a piece from Brighton based Tigercub. Hit the jump for fill interview, dates, tunes, and more.
All responses come from guitarist Jamie Hall.
ATH: What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
The bands name is tigercub and we are from Brighton, England.
ATH: Give us a short pitch for your band, describing sound, ambiance or whatever you feel like.
For people that haven’t heard it before I’d say that our sounds quite dark, heavy rock, and features a lot of dynamics.
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2024?
Last month we released a new remix of our single “Show Me My Maker” by Stone Gossard, which is off our 2023 album The Perfume of Decay.
ATH: SXSW is often called a sort of initiation which can lead to increased exposure. As a band, why did you choose to play the festival? What’s your aim for the week?
SXSW in Austin is an absolutely legendary new music festival that’s known and respected around the world by artists. It’s such a prestigious festival that when we got the opportunity to play there, we took it and it also lined up quite nicely with a current tour that we are doing with Porno for Pyros around the United States.
ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Daniel Avery an album particular called Drone Logic, which really gets me going when I exercise and I just think it’s a really amazing concept album. It doesn’t feature any singing. It just have some vocals but it’s mainly like a minimalist techno and it’s pretty great. I’ve also been quite into music made from Cheiron Studios and the whole Swedish pop takeover that happened in the 80s, 90s and naughties.
ATH: If you’ve had a chance to check out any of the artists coming into town for the festival – Anyone you are excited about trying to see during the week?
We’re excited to watch Nico Vega!
ATH: Disregarding the constructs of space, time, and availability – If you could construct a power group of artists to make the supreme, all powerful super group of a band, who would be in it? Pick as many members as you like. Who is on vocals, drums, guitar, etc.? All submissions will be judged with a winner awarded during the festival.
Fredrick Chopin, Zach Hill, Dido, Ice Cube
ATH: Any road survival or SXSW survival tips for newbie bands? What are some must haves to survive the road?
Drink lots of water & eat bbq. Suggested tipping is 18%.
