La Securite Share Detour Single

You’re going to throw a stabbing post punk guitar riff at me? Then follow it up with this infectious bass groove and a bit of bob-and-weave vocal stylings? Okay, I’ll follow you anywhere at that point, just like I will with a new La Securite single. And, as much as I love the hooks in the songwriting, there are some elements towards the latter half that just put the group in their groove, locking into the fun of building noise and letting the mixture swirl around until it all sounds absolutely perfect. This is the perfect reminder of how great the group are, and perhaps why I should go revisit Stay Safe!

12XU Readies Box of Dark Roses, the Final Mope Grooves LP

I suppose that I could wait to toss Box of Dark Roses out with our casual Friday Album Streams, but seeing as 12XU got another track out before the release of the final Mope Grooves record, it feels as if I should shine a little more purposeful light in that direction. But, even as a fan of stevie and her work, it’s also hard to write about their efforts to fight for marginalized groups, particularly as a cis-white dude. All that to say, the new tune that’s been bopping around is a solid glimpse at the importance of the 27 songs coming our way Friday. There’s a propulsive beat that courses throughout, then layer upon layer get added, thickening the piece; you can get a glimpse of stevie’s process with the repeated line of “it is right to fight,” punching through the speakers. Personally, I love the piano notes that creep through the metallic backdrop, illustrating a sort of juxtaposition between the beauty and harshness the music is confronting. Levitation Interviews: Pissed Jeans

Wow, hard to believe that we are already about to roll into November and it is once again time for Levitation Festival in Austin. Now this crew stands with the opinion that this is the best fest in town as we love the peeps who put it on, dig the venues, and generally vibe with the bands on the bill. This year is no different as our hype builds and things look to set off in downtown next week. We would of course fail at life if we didn’t try to prep you in some way so a few Levitation “Getting to Know You” interviews seems like a fitting kick off. Also more fitting, is getting to jumpstart this thing with one of my top bands of the entire weekend – Pissed Jeans. Hit the jump for band insights, tunes and set times.

2nd Grade Share Three New Singles

This Friday you’ll be fortunate to spend some time with the brand new record from 2nd Grade, but we can’t quite get there without opening another bottle of singles to chug down. When matched up with the other tunes on the record thus far, there just seems to be this innate openness to the lyrical work from Peter Gill; there’s an honesty spread across the music that feels like the perfect setting for settling into a late Fall listen. Musically, the tracks all operate between the borders of power pop and huge bedroom alternative rock vibes; it’s as catchy as it is warm, lining up Scheduled Explosions as perhaps the last great album of the year; it drops Friday via Double Double Whammy.

Rosali Releases Hey Heron

If you were paying attention to the Cardinals at the Window, the compilation benefitting flood victims, then you’ve possibly already indulged in this new Rosali song. But, seeing as she released a powerhouse record earlier this year, we wanted to point you in the direction of this single. There’s a slow burning guitar that courses through, reminiscent of the summer haze that we’re trying to escape down here in Texas. Take in the slow burn, then go dive into Bite Down, if you haven’t done so already. This tune is out there, like her album, courtesy of some label called Merge Records.

Geoffrey O’Connor Signs to Dinosaur City

After several releases with Chapter Music, Geoffrey O’Connor has announced he’ll be working with Dinosaur City Records on his new LP. Atop of writing great pop songs, Geoffrey also creates his own videos, this go round opting to go with an adorable cutout penguin as his companion. The musical pieces around O’Connor’s voice highlight the majesty he’s offered since his earliest days in The Crayon Fields, boosting that croon into this infectious melody you can’t steal away from, nor is that your desire. I Love What We Do will be out on February 14th, with more pop hits to follow!

LP Gavin Share Launderette Euphoria Video

After a little blast from that earlier Nothing Natural tune, you’re likely ready to settle into your chair, then get right down to business, thus you’ll need to get this LP Gavin track on repeat. It’ll greet you with a little bit of a bluesy swagger, then churning it out with a bit of fuzz to make your speakers rattle. All the while, Gavin is just staying cool, detailing the little observations of the world he’s been able to make. There’s something in the vocals and the guitars that almost seems to drag a bit behind the beat, only to pick up again and launch into gritty little breakdowns and solo guitar chugs. Safe Suburban Home will be putting out a new LP in February of next year, so keep your ears ready.

The Tubs Announce Cotton Crown

While October isn’t quite over yet, we’re already starting to get a peek at what next year’s release schedule will look like, and the Tubs have another addition that you should keep your eyes upon. They open up the record with this new single, rushing through a slight jangle with a 90s alternative bent to it; the rush of energy allows the vocals to work their own magic, calmly sitting in the middle of the mix in crooner fashion, with some backing vocals layered in to bulk up the melodic feel. The nostalgia doesn’t feel dated here, with enough of a modern twist to make leave us thirsting for more! Cotton Crown will be out in March via Trouble in Mind.

Jam Nothing Natural’s Title Track to Cold Star

In unforgivable blunders, I made a huge one by forgetting the release date of the new Nothing Natural LP; I’m only one man and there’s only so much room in this tiny brain! Alas, they dropped their brand new Cold Staron Friday via Cherub Dream Records, and it’s definitely one of those Monday albums; the sort that makes you crank up the volume and know that you can kick ass the rest of the week. There’s some noise tendencies tying it to the modern realm, but I also hear an allegiance to the work of the last two hum record, bridging guitar-monies and thundering drums to build walls of hook-laden rock n’ roll. If the song below gets under your skin, be sure to stop in for the rest of the record.

Last Week’s Jams (10.14 – 10.18)

There was so much new music dropping last week that it was hard to keep track of it all, but I think with 22 new songs out there, we managed to do our part. Greg Mendez was a big winner, with a brand new EP we loved; I also definitely didn’t turn away from the fresh Innocence Mission, which maybe one of my favorite they’ve ever concocted. We had a premiere of a new Sunnsetter tune, and also hit up the latest from The Great Divides, so we’re kind of all over the place musically, making this playlist a journey of sorts.
