SXSW Interviews 2025: Last Waltzon
As we continue to churn out some of these SXSW getting to know you pieces, I am finding a lot to look forward to next week when the music lineup really shows up in Austin. If you’re one of those still holding on to the old Austin narrative, why not venture out and see one of the hundreds of amazing bands coming to town? One such band we’d recommend is Montreal based outfit Last Waltzon, who were kind enough to answer our interview questions. You can find full responses, show dates, and tunes after the jump.
ATH: What’s the name of the band/group? Where are you from?
Last Waltzon of Montreal Canada!
ATH: Give us a short pitch for your band, describing sound, ambience or whatever you feel like.
We been calling it Art-Rock or Art Punk recently.. Punk and rock is sort of a broad term. Were pretty loud and fast and draw a lot of inspiration from all music n most forms of art, as of now art rock or art punk is an easy way to explain it. We have pretty high-energy live shows because we think that is important. Lots of people stand around and do nothing and it makes the band look boring sometimes. If somebody is reading this, come see us play live!
ATH: What was your most recent release? Any planned releases for 2025?
Our most recent release would be our new album Wethouse which came out on March 1st independently. So far this the only release we are planning on putting out in 2025 n’well started recording LP 2 !
ATH: SXSW is often called a sort of initiation which can lead to increased exposure. As a band, why did you choose to play the festival? What’s your aim for the week?
We’re focused on playing as many shows as possible, showcasing our songs, and putting on high energy live performances. Its tough for independent Canadian bands to tour the U.S. due to visa issues, but our goal this week is to give it our all, have fun, and remember its all about the music. We’re all psyched about SXSW and hope to keep doing this for years to come.
ATH: What has everyone in the band been listening to, or, what plays in the tour van/car/bus?
Jack: Lots of the new/old Saul Adamszcewski album and recently gettin’ more into The Damned
Judah: Been listening to a lot of Charlie Megira, Insecure Men and this A Frames album called Black Forest. We’ve been putting on Songs for Our Mothers by Fat White Family in the car, also Public Strain by Women is a good driving album.
ATH: If you’ve had a chance to check out any of the artists coming into town for the festival – Anyone you are excited about trying to see during the week
Man/Woman/Chainsaw, Catcher, Shallow Water, just to name a few. There’s a couple unofficial shows that look cool like Die Spitz, Erik Nervous n Wand
ATH: Disregarding the constructs of space, time, and availability – If you could construct a power group of artists to make the supreme, all powerful super group of a band, who would be in it? Pick as many members as you like. Who is on vocals, drums, guitar, etc.? All submissions will be judged with a winner awarded during the festival.
GG ALLIN (Vocals & Shitting), SAUL & LIAS of Fat White Family (Arguing), KEITH MOON (Drinking & Drumming), Charles Manson (cowbell & back up dancing), Kim Gordon(bassin), Darby Crash (Guitar), Yoko Ono (Shrieking) & Jack, Judah, Cam & Josh of Last Waltzon doing what we do
ATH: Any road survival or SXSW survival tips for newbie bands? What are some must haves to survive the road?
This is our first time going to SXSW but we are ready for anything, we can get back to you next year on that haha sxsw 2026. Must haves for the road though lots of nicotine, a good book, maybe a couple beers, cha ching and some gear
ATH: What concerns do you have as a band or a human or both? In regards to music, the world, really… where does your mind tend to wander these days? How do you refocus?
I can speak for myself (Jack). I tend to sometimes get caught up in the future, always trying to make more music, book more shows, play bigger gigs, write more songs, and create better music videos with the guys. Sometimes you’ve got to slow down, but you also have to keep grinding. Right now, we got a lot of drive, creativity, and energy, and we use it to our advantage. I keep myself in check by remembering that people do burn out
sometimes in this game and staying aware of that, but I’m also enjoying what I’m doing because our lives are fucking fun. And like I said earlier…we’re grateful but yeah where’s my mind tend to wander these days whoooo knows, somewhere far away.
Thanks again for making this time to give us your thoughtful responses! Here are show dates and times for next week:
