Friday Album Streams: Aritificial Go, Bouqeut, Soot Sprite and More…

There’s really so much great music out today that it’s impossible to bounce between all and so you’re going to have to dig into the mixture below and really figure out what you love the most. Since it’s raining great records, I put some word below so that maybe you can get a feel of what you might find if you press play. Jump below to hear my thoughts, and remember to support the artists and labels behind these great releases.

Artificial GoMusical Chairs (Feel It Records)

This record feels like a New Zealand version of the Raincoats, except with a huge penchant for pop hooks and joyous moments. I keep thinking its the bastard child of Electrelane and the Raincoats, or maybe a more post-punk Horsegirl.

The High Water MarksConsult the Oracle (Meritorio Records)

This Norwegian outfit (with Elephant 6 ties) can’t be overlooked. They consistently craft power-pop masterpieces that hit from start to finish. There’s something about this record that feels a touch sweeter to me, like there’s a bit more sugar in the hooks, and we’re all the better for it.

BouquetSpellbreaker (Self-Released)

Let’s face it. You’ve been looking for something that could replace the synthetic bedroom pop of Broadcast, and while they’ve got their own vibe, Bouquet can definitely fill that absence in your listening. That said, Carolyn Pennybacker’s voice is so huge, that you can listen to a whole record of just her voice and never grow weary.

The GotobedsMasterclass (12XU)

After a stint with Sub Pop, the Gotobeds have returned to their rightful home, 12XU. The label embraces bands that put out great rock n’ roll records without all the bullshit tricks, and as such, they’ve got loads of LPs of under-appreciated hits. Don’t be one of those nubs that overlooks this great LP filled with angular rock stabs and a barrage of noise.

Soot SpriteWield Your Hope Like a Weapon (Specialist Subject Records)

Classic sounds of indie rock are not quite the fad, but Soot Sprite aim to break that up with their brand new LP. It’s got power ballads, hard rockers and everything in between, all tied together with a thread of pop sensibility that keeps you coming back again and again.

TriathalonFuneral Music (Lex Records)

I would stream this record on repeat for the singles alone. “Rip” is one of my favorite tracks this year, kind of dark and dreary, but with these little cascading gaze riffs coursing through. As the kids say, this record is all vibes.
