SXSW Interview: Twin Peaks
Readers of our website know that the entire staff here is fully behind the up and coming sounds of Chicago based rock group Twin Peaks. Now since I just interviewed these guys back during Fun Fest, I sent them our SXSW questions this time around to get their thoughts on the festival and Austin. Follow the jump to see what the dudes had to say.
ATH: There was a lot of hubbub last year concerning corporate sponsors and pay to play and what not at SXSW. As a band, what’s your reason for coming to pay at the festival? What do you hope to get out of it?
Yeah that part of sxsw kind of blows but as far as we go sxsw is a hell of a time. We just wanna play some killer shows and have a fun time sxsw is great for that.
ATH: For most SXSW sets, you get 30 minutes to leave a lasting impression. What’s your plan of attack? You have a set list mapped out yet?
Well we live by the phrase short and sweet so a thirty minute set sounds like a good time to smash in as many songs as possible. Gives us some room to cut out the bulls*** as far as set list goes we love to wing it.
3) The festival caters to music fans, but food and booze are an important aspect of the fans and the bands. What’s your band’s food and beverage of choice?
Whiskey gingers all around for the mates. And some sweet as BBQ sits quite well with us dudes.
4) There are tons of bands coming into town. Who would you ideally like to play with of the 1000s of bands gracing our city? Make your own optimal line-up.
We’d love to play with fat white family again, foxygen would be right also. Also playing with some hometown heroes modern vices would be a blast.
5) Let’s say your band has been booked an official showcase at a pop up venue somewhere in the middle of 6th street. The lineup features thrash metal, hip-hop, spoken word, and you. The sound is horrible, the lineup is not your style, and the crowd seems drunk and angry at the world. How would your band deal with such a situation?
This has happened many times we would just throw down like we always do and those frowns would turn right side up on no time
6) What’s your favorite album to come out in the last year? What’s playing in the tour bus?
Foxygens new album is a favorite for sure
7) Day parties have replaced showcases for music discovery? Is the conference really completely upside-down?
Day parties are great too, but I think you can discover great music at both just gotta be on the hunt.
Twin Peaks has some jams for your ears on their bandcamp page.
