Levitation Interviews: La Femme
Levitation kicks off next week, and one of the acts we’re really excited to see again is French outfit, La Femme. They’ve got a brand new record titled Teatro Lucido coming our way in November, and it takes a little bit of a departure from their previous album, using vocals all in Spanish this round. It also has a bit more of a pop sound, which is one of the ways Levitation has continued to grow their brand since the early days as Psych Fest. So, we reached out to band and asked a few fun questions to see what was coming our way from the group on their trip to the States.
All responses come from founding member Sacha Got.
ATH: Levitation is the festival formerly known as Psych Fest. How does your music fit into the psychedelic genre as we know it?
SG: Psychedelic is a big term, since the beginning we like to use some weird sound or do some hypnotic songs. We can say its psychedelic yes.
ATH: Similarly, you’re opening at Levitation for Black Angels…what’s your plan to get a heavy rock crowd on your side for your set?
SG: Playing our song the most psych like “Vagues” or “It’s Time to wake up”.
ATH: Teatro Lucido seems to have a very Latin style to it…from sound to song titles to the cover art. What’s the story behind that influence?
SG: We travel a lot in Spain and Mexico and we naturally begin to write some songs in Spanish. We love the folklore and the culture there. Also we grow up in the Basque country near the Spanish border so it think we have a specific connection with Spain
ATH: The new album drops in November. Where do you go once its out into the world? Back into record? Tour until you’re tired? What does your band do, now that your art is in the world?
SG: There is more show coming and we already start working on a new record!
ATH: Ya’ll have a big global tour ongoing…from Mexico to Spain to the States…how are you deciding where to play, and where the best potential is for the band?
SG: We play where people invite us, but I think the main country where we have the most crowd is France, Mexico and USA
ATH: You’ve played in Austin before. Anything you’re looking forward to upon your return?
SG: We played at Psych Fest in 2014 and it was crazy. Probably the best festival I’ve been to. Good bands playing in the nature with crazy people. I remember being on acid, laying on the grass watching the stars with kaleidoscope sunglasses while some hippies was playing folk songs and falling asleep. And feel the Spirit Of the 60s and Woodstock
ATH: The French scene seems to have been making some good headway in the States the last few years. What are some French bands we should fall in love with?
SG: I really enjoy Bon Voyage Organisation, Juniore, Tentative
ATH: I’m always interested in bands and food…is there a recipe you’d like to share with us…like a go to that makes you feel like home?
SG: Piperade! It is a Basque dish, from where I’m from, south west of France
ATH: If superfans could bring you a present, what would the band appreciate the most?
SG: Some brand new black socks.
Thanks again Sacha for making this time! La Femme play on Sunday, October 30th at Stubbs as part of the end of festival Black Angels extravaganza. Tickets are still available via Levitation.
