New Rocker From The Orwells

unnamed-3In case you didn’t hear it yesterday, The Orwells are back again with yet another single. They’ve put out the new song, “Buddy,” which you can take a listen to below and jam right along with the band. This group of rockers has a knack of making you fall in love with their music in a short amount of time, and this track is another test of that special skill– after all, the track is barely over a minute long. Nevertheless, it’s a right jam of a song, and it’s certainly got me tapping my toes and bouncing along. What do you think?

New Rocker From The Orwells

What happens when you get 5 high school aged kids from Chicago together to form a band that doesn’t seem to care if you like their music or not?  Well that my friends is what you get in The Orwells.  It’s funny because their story reads like a modern day version of The Strokes, not to mention that they are often compared to the band and they cite them as an influence.  This song below “Mallrats (La La La La)” will give you a brief taste of that “don’t give a shit” attitude that’s sure to make them great in the long run.  The band seems passionate and driven much like any young band should be and have seemingly created their very own version of gritty rock n roll tunes.  A debut album from the teens will be available on August 7th and is called Remember When.

Free Press Summer Fest Lineup

FPSF 2014 LineupHouston’s Free Press Summer Fest is gaining momentum. It is becoming very popular for its well curated and diverse lineups and park setting, despite being scheduled in the upswing of a Houston summer.

This year sees the trend of artist diversity continuing with headliners like Jack White and Vampy Weeks to Wu-Tang and Dwight Yoakum (who I would totally be stoked to see in a festival setting). ATH faves making the list include Die Antwoord, CHVRCHES, The Kills, Lord Huron, Feathers, King Kahn & The Shrines, Poolside and The Orwells.

Which of my Houston people lives closest to Memorial’s Eleanor Tinsley Park?

ACL Spotlight: Early Bird Specials

When taking the first look at the ACL Schedule for each weekend, I tend to first see the conflicts in headliners. Luckily, we are fairly conflict free this year, we’ll get into that more soon enough. How about we take a look at a few of the artists put in the early spots? The cool morning grass, the wide expanses to roam and the vendors still relaxed before the dude-bro crush all add up to a child-like wonderment with the scale of the empty festival giving you the this all-for-me feeling. This year’s ATH Approved Early Bird Artists will create the soundtrack for your barefoot dance party.
