You can always count on Mint Records to deliver solid Canadian music recommendations, like their latest singing Knitting. You’re certainly going to find similarities in the songwriting, particularly in the tune’s latter half where emotion is built up and unleashed on the listener, with those moments recalling acts like PACKS or Cherry Glazer. But, the opening lightness of the tune reminded me a bit of the Softies, with singer Mischa Dempsey drifting carefully into the verse with a sense of wander that’s simply sublime. That contrast between the quiet and loud is executed perfectly, drawing you into the tune where Dempsey powerfully details their experience as a member of the trans community.
