Get Ready For Oscar

Every once and a while you come across a track from some under the radar artist that you just know is going to explode shortly. Such is the case with London’s Oscar and this track below. Now, Oscar’s already put out an EP, but this new track “Daffodil Days” is simply great and really worth your attention. The song springs into action right away with the dulcet vocals a-la The Magnetic Fields and the power pop guitars just going to town. The dark vocals and the guitars combine to give you a solid pop song that oddly enough sounds fairly springy in its nature– hear for yourself. Oscar just signed to Wichita Recordings so expect big things.

Jangle Along With The Dirty Heat

10841873_377797762381344_390968638546037313_oWhen it comes to indie rock that’s on the folksier side, I’m pretty much a sucker for two things: harmonies and effortless guitar riffs. So when I heard this new single from locals, The Dirty Heat, I was almost instantly on board and ready to share this track. “Too Small,” the song below, is a new single from these up-and-coming gents that has just enough campy jangle to make sure your toes never stop tapping. While it begins pretty starkly with just some drastic vocals, quickly the simmering drums are introduced as well as that groovy guitar riff that never ceases to ground those soaring vocals. Take a listen below and check out their debut album.

Dance Along with Django Django

DjangoDjango_byMikaelGregorsky

Scottish four piece Django Django put out their first album of psychedelic pop a few years back and since then they’ve been picking up steam and lauded for their quirky take on pop music. Today, I’ve got a new song for you from these gents that’s fittingly called “First Light,” as looks to be the first single off an upcoming album. While details are still to come on that sophomore release, the details of the song below are quite readily available for you to enjoy. When you first press play, you’ll notice that this doesn’t really sound like psychedelic, but rather heavy synth electro pop, but this change has you grooving with the band from the very start. As the track progresses, the band layers in harmonies that creates a buzzing soundscape. Enjoy.

New (To You) Iron & Wine

iron

Well, everyone knows and most likely loves indie folkster Sam Beam, or as you know him better, Iron & Wine, as he’s been making music under this moniker for over a decade now. For all you fans out there, rejoice, as Beam is releasing Archive Series, which is exactly what it sounds like: old tunes that accompanied his previously released musical material. Up first to be released is Volume No. 1, which is the companion record to his debut album, The Creek Drank the Cradle, and it includes the soft folksy track below. Enjoy and Archive Series Volume No. 1 is out February 24th on Black Cricket Recording Co.

Dark Space Pop With Princess Chelsea

prinOk, so I was a little put off by the name of this artist while I was sifting through the internet looking for sweet tunes to share with you, as someone that goes by the name of Princess Chelsea doesn’t seem like they would be someone that would appeal to my listening taste. However, this is one of those instances where you truly can’t prejudge on name alone, and need to listen to the music behind the moniker. “No Church On Sunday,” the new track from New Zealand’s Chelsea Nikkel, is sure to catch your attention. It starts out with Nikkel’s piercing vocals, and buzzingly atmospheric guitars that build up to this great explosive ending. While this track is new(ish) apparently Princess Chelsea has quite a discography for you to explore.  So get to listening.

Check Out Planes On Paper

the ruins

Planes on Paper are a duo from Washington State that have been together since 2012, making folksy indie pop ever since. In that time they released an EP, The East End, and now are back with another little mini-cd/EP called The Ruins. The track I have for you below, “Monolithia” is a song from this effort by these two. It’s got glorious harmonies that will lure you in, while the bluesy guitar riffs coat the whole thing in an effortlessly melancholy light. Take a listen and see if you dig it, and then head over here to buy it from the band.

Blast This New Viet Cong Track

unnamed (2)After Viet Cong, made up of past members of Women, shared their lovely debut single, “Continental Shelf” from their upcoming record last year, the internet has been abuzz with praise and hype for what this band’s first album has in store. Following the enticing psychedelic power pop of that track, the band’s got another track from their forthcoming record to share with you and get you even more ready for the full record. This track has a little less of a Wolf Parade vibe and more of a straightforward rock and roll feel to it– the multilayered vocals dominate “Silhouettes” alongside the shredding psych’ed out guitar lines. Their debut self titled album is slated to come out in a few short weeks on January 20th via Jagjaguwar Records and you can pre-order it right here. You really don’t want to miss this track/band/album.
