Sorry I Missed This: Luke Saxton

lukeOk, so while surfing the interwebs for sweet tunes to share with you, I came across this artist, Luke Saxon, who has apparently made a large number of albums already in his bedroom, including Sunny Sadness, which came out a few weeks ago at the end of November. Now, normally we try to keep you fresh with the latest tunes, but after listening to this track I realized it was necessary to do a little backtracking. The song below, “Anything I Can Do” has this old school 60’s nostalgia and melancholy to it that I’m really enjoying: it starts with some simple piano and acoustic guitar, but slowly and surely Luke Saxton adds in elements (including handclaps) to his faded rock that has me playing this track over and over. If you’re interested, head on over here and pick up this album and look for big things from this guy in the future…after all, he is only 19.

Introducing The Artificial Flower Company

a0345362907_10I’m all over the place musically today, so it only makes sense that I take you down the path of the weird and quirky with The Artificial Flower Company. This group, despite releasing an album just a month ago, are back with another two songs of glam/experimental rock that should have you shaking it along with every eclectic beat. The song below, “A Lil Closer Now” brings a little bit of funk, but the other track on this two song release as well as their previous work reminds me a little of Ariel Pink. Head on over to their bandcamp page and have a listen to the rad sounds they’ve got brewing. Or just lose yourself in the track below. That’s what I’m gonna do.

Dark Blues From Dorthia Cottrell

dcDorthia Cottrell of Windhand has a self-titled debut solo record coming out in the spring of next year, and she’s given us the first track of said album, which is below. “Gold” has this slow moving psych folk atmosphere to it, of course fronted by Cottrell’s powerhouse vocals that threaten to turn the song down an even darker road at any moment. If this forthcoming album has volatile tunes like this, you can sure count me on board. Check it out and see what you think.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/173229915″ params=”color=ff9900&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Jam Out With CHAPPO

CHAPOO

At some point, everyone needs to take a moment out of their day and just jam. Today, that moment can come from this track from Brooklyn’s CHAPPO, whose sound consists of a combination of psych rock and 70’s groove. “Celebrate,” the song below, is from this bands most recent release, Celebrate EP, which just came out earlier this week. The band is set to release their sophomore LP, Future Former Self in the spring of next year, but for now, just press play on the track below and let yourself be swept up in those slick guitar riffs and sweet synths.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/176301190″ params=”color=ff9900&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Tall Tall Trees Has a New EP

0002043235_10

Tall Tall Trees is the name behind which banjo player, Mike Savino, has constructed his indie folk rock personae. If you haven’t heard of this gentleman and his intricate and innovative banjo techniques, now is the time to familiarize yourself because he’s got a new EP out for you to enjoy. The Seasonal EP came out around a week ago, and you can scoop it up over here for a low low price. It features some vocal and ukelele aid from none other than Kishi Bashi, as well as the track below, “Picture Picture.” I’m digging the lyrics as well as the sort of whimsy folk vibe its got going. You dig?

Introducing The Penny Serfs

pserfs

The Penny Serfs got their start back in 2012, when these three gents who were originally on the production side of the music world decided to come together to see what they could give to the creative scene. The result is their first release coming to you in the form of a self-titled EP at the start of 2015. They’ve premiered the track “Dead Love” over here , and it’s also below, to give you a hint of the American indie rock sound. It’s a clean rock and roll  sound, and it’s got a nice choral hook to it. Listen and hear for yourself.

New Music and News From Lady Lamb The Beekeeper

unnamed (1)

Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, aka Aly Spaltro, has signed to Mom + Pop Records and has announced a new album that will be coming your way March 3rd of next year. This may seem quite a ways off before After, the new LP, will be released, but it will be here before you know it and until then, Spaltro has given you a track from this album to entice and hold you over in the meantime. “Billions of Eyes” has me fawning over the combination of both laid back and high strung pop sensibilities. Spaltro’s voice is pushed to its limits at one moment and then released to its relaxed lower register in the next. Take a listen and preorder the album here.
