Draag Back With a New One

Drag is another band who left a lasting impression on me during SXSW last March having seen them put on their show more than once during the week. After a promise of new music in the coming months, the band has delivered with this impressive new tune called “Miracle Drug.” I love the play here on twee meets screamo and I think the band are truly diving into new territory that other bands only attempt to hit. It’s pretty rad.

This track is part of a new EP entitled Miracle Drug which is due out on January 23rd.

Instrumental Jam From The Olympians

With the passing of the legendary Steve Cropper yesterday, my heart and mind lean into his music and ground breaking guitar style. So no, this isn’t a post about Steve, but more about the passing of the torch for new groups to carry on those oh so soulful sounds. Of course Daptone comes to mind when thinking of modern soul, and this instrumental jam called “Honey Bea” from The Olympians is packed with a slick, soulful groove. This one definitely focuses a bit more on the horns as it slides through an epic 4 minute journey of smoothness and soul vibes. You’ll want to check it out below.

This track is part of a new LP entitled In Search of a Revival, which is due out February 13th. Pre-orders are live now.

Say Hello to Tiberius

Tiberius is a band hailing from Boston, who despite their NE location, create this sort of twangy style of Americana drenched indie rock. This track, “Sitting,” will serve as a perfect introduction as it gives off hints of early Centro-Matic with real reverby vocals akin to say Jim James. It’s a lovely track filled with some truly beautiful moments locked within. Dig it.

This track is part of a new full length entitled Troubadour, which was released a couple weeks ago. You can check out some purchase options via bandcamp.

Adios Cometa Release Luminosa

Lankford and I have always had a special place in our DNA for Costa Rica as both of us spent a ton of time there in our younger years. While I am sure both of us would agree, most the music in the country leaned toward a certain style most of the time, so it’s refreshing to pick up on this noisy, reverb laden Costa Rican band Adios Cometa. The quintet released a critically acclaimed LP last year entitled Nuestras Manos Son Incendios and continue the steady output with this new track “Luminosa.” I love how this thing kicks in super heavy from the get go and doesn’t try to mess about. The screaming near the end is a nice touch too.

Adios Cometa will release this track as part of a new album called Un Destello de Luz which is available for pre-order now via Steadfast Records.

MX Lonely Announce Debut

I’m catching up on things after a trip to the PNW and paused on an email today with news of a long awaited debut LP from one of my long time favorite New York bands, MX Lonely. While we chatted during SXSW in March about the much needed physical release of guitar player Jake Harms solo EP from 2018, lead singer Rae also made mention of new music incoming this fall. Today her promise holds true with the release of this new track “Big Hips” along with live pre-orders for their debut full length All Monsters. If you’ve yet to check out this band, this is a perfect time to get on board.

MX Lonely’s new, debut LP All Monsters is available to pre-order now via Julia’s War. Those ship out in February.

Twin Shadow Still Brings It

While combing through some new music this morning, I realized that it has been a super long time since we posted on our old pal Twin Shadow. He has certainly been busy over the years, but for whatever reason, the music hasn’t been mentioned here. Today his new song “Love Gently” really stuck with me as I am easing into my chilly morning and finding my way through the day. If you’re in a similar sort of mood, I think will find some chillness here along with mellow beats and an overall nice groove. We apologize for the absence.

Twin Shadow will release this song as part of his seventh full length entitled Cadet. You can go ahead and pre-save that one now.

Enjoy More Jams From The Convenience

New Orleans based duo The Convenience shared their stunning album entitled Like Cartoon Vampires this past spring and you should definitely give that one some time if you have yet to do so. You should also pick up a physical copy if you’re feeling it, just saying. This is of course a news site, so outside of my prior fandom, the band just shared this new track today called “Angel.” It’s truly a lovely bit of songwriting in a sort of Americana vein with a delicate, yet still driving and powerful, touch. Definitely one of my top bands of the year. Stay tuned.

Austin’s Mugger Share New Single

Stop me if you’ve heard this before… But boy do I get tired of the “Austin’s music scene is dead” narrative which continually comes up in this town. It’s not dead. Things change. Evolve. I say this to tell those naysayers to keep their eyes and ears open, and to check out this new slayer called “Want the World” from Austin’s own Mugger. The group features some of the major players in our thriving scene, featuring members from both TV’s Daniel and The Well, plus a myriad of other local groups. You simply must check out this hardcore gem below and also consider a purchase of the band’s new EP. They’ve got some slick looking vinyl copies coming on October 24th.

Shy Boys Return!

Many of us considered Kansas City’s finest Shy Boys to sort of be done with the music game as we had not heard anything from them in 5+ years. Pleasant surprises are always welcome though, and today’s news of a new single from the lads was sheer delight. And yeah, this new single “Upperclassmen” is an absolute banger of a track, showing a heaviness we’ve never seen before from the band’s output. Hell yeah. We make assumption that more is on the way, but of course we will keep you posted when more news heads our way.

Another One From Ghostwoman

Our pals from north of the border GHOSTWOMAN have a remarkable new album coming out tomorrow and it definitely should be on your list of things to pick up and listen to over the weekend. As you anticipate the one day waiting period, the band just offered up one more tease in the form of this hot single called “5 Gold Pieces.” This duo is truly crafting some downright dirty vibes with heavily distorted guitars, frantic drums, and an overall feeling of urgent, distorted blues rock. Hit me with more of this.

The new GHOSTWOMAN album, Welcome to the Civilized World, arrives tomorrow via Full Time Hobby. Get your copy now!
