An ATH favorite, The Kills, will be playing at Emo’s on Friday night. The duo will be joined by up and comers The Horrors and opening act The Magic Wands. Tickets for this show are on sale now for only $14. Doors are at 9, music at 10.

We’ll be making our first return to Victory Grill since our SXSW showcase on Thursday night for the KVRX Pledge Drive Benefit Concert. The UT radio station is keeping it local with Austin bands Heartstring Stranglers, Breakfast Club Crew, Sohns, Wine & Revolution, Wild Moccasins, and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) all joining in for the nights events. A suggested $7 donation will be taken at the door which includes free BBQ and beer while supplies last. Things kick off around 8pm.

This may be a bit sad bastard for some of you, but I think this is a nice little jam that goes well with the change of the season. Mastermind of Pink Mountaintops, Stephen McBean, is most widely known as the front man for Canadian powerhouse Black Mountain. Call it a side project if you want, the “band” has a new album hitting stores on May 5th via JagJaguwar called Outside Love. Breezy little single “While We Were Dreaming” is bellow for your enjoyment.

We brought Boston band Pretty & Nice to our SXSW showcase at Victory Grill and have been awaiting their return to Austin for a proper show. We are in luck, because the band has a show lined up next week at Emo’s on Thursday (4/30). Baltimore two piece Wye Oak just dropped a new single that we’ve been spinning around the ATH offices over the last few days. The new track will appear on upcoming album The Knot due out July 21st on Merge. What do you think of the new material?

Spencer Krug continues to work hard outside of his steady Wolf Parade gig as his side project Sunset Rubdown readies their next release. The Canadian outfit will be dropping Dragonslayer on JagJaguwar later this year on June 23rd. First single from the new album “Idiot Heart” is available for download and stream below.

This is one of those shows most of us have been waiting a while for and the time is finally here. On Tuesday April 28th, Mates of State will bring their tour with Black Kids to the famous La Zona Rosa in Austin. We all know and love Spoon here in Austin, and if you don’t, well you can just geeeet out! Our From the Closet song “Everything Hits at Once” appears on the band’s 2001 breakthrough release Girls Can Tell. If you don’t own that album, take your ass to the record store and buy it before someone finds out. This album is arguably the most important in Spoon’s career. It’s their first in a long series of releases with Merge. It’s the first time Mike McCarthy gets credit for producing. In my mind, it’s the first record that really sounded like a Spoon record. Damn I love this album.

Looks like Peaches has gone dance hall crazy. Not to say the earlier music wasn’t dancey, but this new single sounds like it’s made for the dance floor. “Talk to Me” will appear on upcoming album I Feel Cream due out May 5th. It’s by far the cleanest single (lyrics wise) I’ve ever heard from the band.
