Infectious New Single From Marek Kubala

A hot but promising weekend lies ahead and you are likely in need of something to get the party going. Might I suggest this bopping new single called “Fault Lines” from Huddersfield based indie pop artist Marek Kubala. It’s an incredibly infectious piece of pop music not like anything I’ve heard recently. Press play and you will be banging your head and tapping your toes in time.

Playful Pop From Martian Subculture

It is yet another hot as hell day here in Austin, TX and I have yet another tune to hopefully brighten and soothe your incoming heat stroke. This new track of (ending) summer is called “All Emotions Are Equal” and comes by way of Limerick based outfit Martian Subculture. The man behind the music, Evan O’Malley, has a very Tame Impala way of doing things having record all of the musical parts on his own. What differs for me, and what I enjoy much more about this than TI, is O’Malley’s ability to create a super catchy, short pop ditty without all that disco influence. As things go, I am expecting we will all be hearing a lot more from this project in the future.

ATX Spotlight: Matthew Squires Returns

Austin based amigo Matthew Squires has long been a favorite around these parts and we are totally excited to hear he is returning this year with new music. For a preview of what the new album might sound like, Squires has just released this new single called “Strange Day”. At first, it sort of sounds like older, quirky material we’ve always known, but then it slowly evolves about two minutes in with a louder guitar, faster pace, and heated vocals. Might sound like a Neil Young song to some if you know his older material, and that’s perfectly all right with me.

Squires will release new album Visions of America on August 30th.

Hey New Temples Song!

Not sure how we missed the news of another highly anticipated album from our UK mates Temples, but it’s never too late to share their fantastic music. The band’s latest single “You’re Either On Something” can be found streaming below for your enjoyment. As usual, the band continues to keep things focused on true rock music with heavy, fuzzed out guitars and a super tight rhythm section.

Temples will be releasing new album Hot Motion on September 27th via ATO Records.

ATX Spotlight: Sick/Sea Drop New Video

Sick/Sea is an Austin based, indie rock trio we’ve never before featured on this here site. Pardoning our fault in not mentioning the band previously, I hope you will chick out the band’s slick new video for the single “Slowpoke”. Beautifully crafted by local director Owen Schwartzbard, the video brings to life what it feels like to carry demons of exes and past relationships into your current situation. It is beautifully executed and brings a quality not usually found in the local scene. And hey if you dig the song, it’s available on Spotify as well!

Check Out This New One From Talkboy

It’s finally Friday, and as Nathan and I’s summer slowly fades away, it’s important for us to stay positive as we transition back to the working world. My new Leeds friends Talkboy have just the right track for my mood today with this new one called “All Works Out”. What makes this song great is its ability to weave around multiple genres while hitting super rising actions after slower melodies. Sometimes the female vocals sound a bit like Eisley, but then the male vocals come in to give it more of a Los Campesinos vibe. And of course, those vocal harmonies are crazy unique and downright awesome.

Talkboy will release a debut EP of new material sometime later this fall.

Dark Post-Punk From Secret Shame

Having posted mostly rock n roll songs over the last couple of weeks, I felt the need to post something a little different today. My new Asheville friends Secret Shame have offered up this banging new track called “Calm” to fulfill my left of center desires. It’s a darker, post-punk themed track with haunting vocals and a truly slamming bass line. To me it’s sort of like a darker version of Beach House or a more accessible version of Chelsea Wolfe.

This track appears on Secret Shame’s new LP Dark Synthetics due out on September 6th. Pre-order here.

Raucous New Single From Honey Lung

Way back in 2017, we posted about an up and coming London based outfit called Honey Lung. Since that time, we’ve missed the boat on some of their new music, but alas we put an end to that today! Fresh off some recent touring, the band just dropped this rowdy new single called “Nothing” yesterday. It definitely has a 90s, alternative/grunge vibe similar to something you might hear from later Smashing Pumpkins. Whatever you compare it to, it’s a hit for sure.

Playful Indie Pop From Kyoto Lo-Fi

Kyoto Lo-Fi is a Dallas based indie pop/rock band I first posted about a couple years ago, having heard very little from the band since that posting. Well now the group has returned to the music world with this new single called “Flowering Boulders”. Similar to their last output, the guys again have a very indie pop inspired sound featuring some garage rock tendencies and a fun, easy to get into vibe. It makes me think that this group will be on everyone’s radar soon enough.

More From Tummyache

Earlier this month I was turned onto the Amarillo product Soren Bryce and her new project under the moniker tummyache. While the previous output was a slow burning type of song, this one hits much harder and gives us much more of a rockin’ vibe. It has a very . grunge inspired sound and comes across as an updated and cleaner version of alternative bands like Garbage. Clearly it seems that the new EP coming later this year on Poor Man Records will feature sounds from a wide variety of landscapes. Dig.
