Slacker Shoegaze From bdrmm

Hailing from Hull in England, allow me to introduce one of my favorite new upstart groups bdrmm. The band manages to create their very own unique style of slacker, sludge rock combined with just a hint of shoegaze and emo stylings. Take for example this new song “Question Mark” which is a slow burning jam which will draw you in and keep you listening for the full 6 minutes. I’ve hit play upwards of 5 times on this one today and I find myself totally entranced and sucked in. Hope you enjoy it as well.

This song appears on a new Singles Club release from UK label Sonic Cathedral which can be purchased now.

Show Preview: Yeasayer @ Mohawk (7.4)

Location Mohawk

If you’re looking for some alternative 4th of July plans, the best show in town on Thursday night has to be the Yeasayer show on the Mohawk outdoor stage. Always a great live band, this show is sure to bring the house down. Make sure you show up early for an opening set from locals Zettajoule followed by a direct supporting spot from L.A. based Steady Holiday.

New Joint From Peaer

As if Brooklyn didn’t have enough of a quality music scene to rival our own, here’s yet another new tune from the area coming from up and comers Peaer. The new track called “Don’t” features some crunchy guitars in a subtle yet powerful way similar to a band like Dirty Projectors or Pinback. It’s always impressive to find a three piece that can bring just as much energy as a bigger band. Carry on amigos.

Peaer will release new album A Healthy Earth on August 16th via Tiny Engines.

Mesmerizing New Track From Tummyache

Previously having made a name for herself a pop/folk artist, Soren Bryce has stepped away from the genre to record under the name tummyache. A welcome change to her older music, the Amarillo native has created something truly beautiful with her debut single “In Between”. It’s rare to find a song which can progress as well as this one with a quiet, stripped down number slowly building into a gut wrenching and powerful final minute. Raw emotions seep through the track and one can’t help but feel it all.

Bryce’s new group tummyache will release a debut EP entitled Humpday later this year on Poor Man Records.

Bright Indie Pop From Mermaidens

It’s a nice and sunny day here in Austin and I think a bright, poppy tune would suit the atmosphere just fine. My desires for such a tune comes today by way of New Zealand based artist Mermaidens and their new song “I Might Disappear”. It’s perfect for fans of Alvvays if they could bring a bit more of an edge with crunchy guitars coming in from time to time. I hope you dig it.

Mermaidens will release new album Look Me in the Eye on September 9th via Flying Nun Records.

Show Review: Appleseed Cast @Barracuda (6/27)

Myself and Mr. Gray pretended like we were young again on a cool Thursday night in Austin and made it out to Barracuda to see the famed Appleseed Cast. We talked some soccer, shared too many beers, and discussed the validity of The Cast music as a soundtrack to major life events. It was a great bill with many hits played. Hit the jump for more words, full setlist and some fancy ass photos from B. Gray.

Infectious New Single From James Leonard Hewitson

Hey it’s a lovely day here in the ATX and I have a fun, energetic track to match my mood. It’s called “Deader” and comes by way of Hartlepool based musician James Leonard Hewitson. The song is a lovely bit of slacker, garage rock/pop music sure to brighten your day even if you are moderately bummed out. Fans of the the new track can purchase a very limited 7″ run via JLH’s bandcamp page. Hewiston also has a new full length LP entitled Only the Noise Will Save Me coming out later this fall.

Beautiful New Track From Photo Ops

The sun is out today, the weather is cooler than normal and it’s a perfect day for a sunny, breezy pop song! My man Terry Price, who records under the moniker Photo Ops, is providing the perfect summer tune today with his new track “Time For an Innocent Song”. It’s a lovely bit of music which catches your attention with a little acoustic ditty as it slowly builds into hazy pop number with hushed vocals and perfectly timed drums. It’s equal parts Fruit Bats mixed with CSNY and little touch of pop sensibilities. Check it out now.

Photo Ops will release a new album entitled Pure at Heart sometime later this year.

Saving you more blabbing about my fandom of the legendary Lawrence, KS band The Appleseed Cast, this is a simple post to remind you about the band’s show at Barracuda on Thursday. Doors for the show open at 8pm with our local amigo Booher opening up the night with L.A. based Tennis System fulfilling the direct support slot.
