Casual Male Back With Another Hit

Brooklyn based artist Tim Lapping has really been striking a chord with my lately with his new tunes under his recording moniker Casual Male. Dare I say, it might just be some of my favorite music from the entirety of summer 2024. Acting as a sort of close out for summer to me is this new tune about that familiar vehicle many of us used to learn our driving craft on “Hondo Civic.” This really plays into that late summer driving, very Americana feel of freedom, open roads, and a sense of total opportunity. Black Doldrums Drop Hideaway

Dang if London based label Fuzz club hasn’t been dropping some serious heat recently as purveyors and curators of modern, fuzzy psych rock. Continuing with the string of modern gems in the label’s catalogue is this dark wave psych number called “Hideaway” from fellow London risers Black Doldrums. I am personally loving the play here on what some might consider a fuzzed up, psych sound with a gnarly, darker, post-punk type vibe. For me, it creates something all together unique and fresh in the genre.

Straight Rocker From Upset Boy and The Queens

With all the things we post, talk about, and even DJ with, I will always find myself coming back to straight guitar rock music for comfort and a sense of home. Nashville upstarts Upset Boy and The Queens are giving off that warm sense of familiarity with this straight garage rocker “Trying to Get to You.” It has that sense of restrained urgency and a sort of palpable tension in rock music you might get from greats like Tom Petty or more modern groups like The Hold Steady. You should find it easy to like.

This track is part of a double A side out now on Sweet Cheetah Records.

HOO Return with new single and album

Savannah, GA based label Graveface Records has been a long time personal favorite of mine over the years and it would be tough to count how many of their physical releases I have in my collection. All that to say, when a new release is announced, I tend to check it out immediately. A few days ago, news came in that Nick Holton would be returning with a new album of songs under the HOO moniker, featuring loads of his friends stepping in to help out. Of course the announcement comes with a single preview by way of this sort of contemplative and atmospheric tune “Myself When I am Real.”

If you are down for this type of thing, this song is part of a new album lll which is out on October 25th via the aforementioned Graveface Records. Pre-orders are live now and supplies are limited.

Alt-Pop Jam From ICHIWAWA

Traditional, sort of radio ready pop music is something we have always steered clear of and leave it to the big boys to cover for the most part. Chances are, you already read about it or heard it elsewhere. Worcester, MA based ICHIWAWA delivers an alternative style of pop music that resonates with me and fits roughly into a sort of bedroom or DIY genre within the genre. The single “Slow Down, My Guy,” should serve as a great introduction to this artist with a DIY beat and hints of shoegaze and dream as well. More to come.

Eades Return With Loose Ciff’s Edge

Leeds based starlets Eades have been gracing the pages of this here site for well on 4-5 years with more praise and song postings than I care to count. Since their last Delusion Spree LP from 2022, we hadn’t heard much from the band so we we’re of course excited when this new track “Loose Cliff’s Edge” came across the submission’s desk. This one is all about that slow build across 4 minutes of an epic rise towards an eventual giant, rock n roll payoff. You’ll love it.

Driving New Song From Casual Male

Tim Lappin is a Brooklyn based artist who has been recording tunes for the last few years under the moniker Casual Male. His tunes have a very New York, driving garage rock vibe to them with some hints of Americana and Bruce in there. This new track “Half Cut” sort of embodies all of those sounds as one has the sudden urge to get moving and maybe venture outdoors while enjoying the song. Check it out below.

Heart To Gold Return With TNT

Minneapolis based outfit Heart to Gold really came onto my radar around this time last year with their stunner of a single “Chloe.” Since then, I’ve spent some time delving into the bands back catalogue and you can now consider me a full on follower and supporter. Adding to their ever growing library of hits comes this new song “TNT” which continues the heavy Minnesota based post-punk meets alt themes which really got me into the group in the first place. Gonna be hitting repeat on this one all morning long.

New Hit From Prim

It’s always nice when we are perusing the new music scene to come across a band who can still rock a bit. That’s just what you can expect prior to listening to this new tune “Golden Tooth” from the Seattle upstarts Prim. Staying true to their cities past, the song has a very alt-rock vibe to it paired with snarling vocals and shiny guitar solos. Take this one with you for your weekend party starter.

New Banger From Brontez Purnell Trio

Brontez Purnell is a guy who is hard to pin down artistically as he traverses all types of musical genres along with both dancing and writing. His latest comes by way of his trio of sorts featuring this new single “If You Can’t Help Me” which takes an old gospel standard and gives it a garage pop twist. The bass on this one is a particular stand out with some heavy distortion and an almost nasty vibe to it ala TV on the Radio. I am sure you will dig it below.

This track is a B-side to a new single release featuring “Forgive Me, Phillip” on the flip.
