New Gem from Isle

I was doing some Internet browsing last night, as it has been rather a slow week for new music creeping up, and I came upon this gem run the other day on IGIF.  This tune comes from Flordians, Isle, who’ve crafted this spectacular dream pop gem that’s really won me over.  The only thing sad about this tune is that its the only one the group have available at the moment, but if they’re taking their time to craft majestic slow pop tunes like the one featured below, then I’ll wait patiently for more special goodness.

For those of you fortunate enough to have caught St. Vincent last year at ACL Live, I hope you caught the beautiful songstress that is Cate Le Bon.  Personally, the Welsh musician enthralled me more than the headliner, but that’s just personal taste.  I’ve since been able to enjoy her CYRK album, and the CYRK II piece that accompanied it.  Although she I last caught her standing solo on stage, her presence was much larger, encouraging me to write the praise that I leave you with now.  Get there early to catch Troller, the opening act, who will help set the tone for the evening.

Track From Crystal Castles

The new album comes out in November. They will play ACL on Sunday at 7:30pm.

Crystal Castles has released this diddy to the internets. It is one of those sweeping gothic things they do with a nice backdrop of danceable electro. Download link in the embed, dig it.

Expect the Honda stage to be packed with your friends as I think they are up against Randy Rogers and Childish Gambino.

New Stuff From Teen Daze

One album I have been really enjoying on calm mornings or post show is Teen Daze‘s All of Us Together. It blends a lot of what I loved from my electronic roots with a simplicity that is hard to do, atmospheric backgrounds with rising and falling activity keeping your mind engaged. Reminding a bit of Cosmic Baby redone by Tycho. It will likely end up on the my best of the year list strictly based on the number of plays.

Teen Daze will release another LP this year, November 6th, called The Inner Mansions. You can preorder it here on Lefse Records. To get you clicking, here is the track “Spirit” just made available on Soundcloud. Also check out “Garden 2″ if you want the mellow side.

ACL Battles: M83 vs. M. Ward

Well it’s time ladies and gents, time for everyone to start mapping out that ACL schedule and deciding who is really going to be worth your time in the sun.  While skimming through the schedule, the first major conflict I see for a lot of people has to be on Friday with M. Ward and M83 both going on at 7:30.  Now I also see Thievery Corporation going on around the same time, but I’m going to leave them out of the mix since they aren’t really my thing.  

So who you gonna pick?  The atmospheric electronic jams of M83?  Or would you rather go with the songwriting style of the legendary M. Ward?  I think I know who I’d pick…. I think.

Show Preview: Mt. Eerie @ the Parish (9.27)

There are some venues that seem to be created for certain bands, and I whole-heartedly feel that the Parish is here to host acts like Mt. Eerie.  Phil Elvrum’s work, either with the Microphones, or with Mt. Eerie, has always been intimate and gentle.  I can’t imagine another place that would be as suited to host Phil’s work on Thursday, as the sound at the Parish is definitely going to bring you closer to Elvrum’s music.  He’s already released two great albums this year, Clear Moon and Ocean Roar, and he’ll be bringing those tunes to life for you.  If you’re in need of something emotionally affecting, then you need to make your way to see Phil on Thursday night.

New Tune from My Jerusalem

I love a smoky voice, especially when you drape it over solemn tunes.  The latest tune from local Austin act My Jerusalem has that exact perfect vocal I look for, even including a nice little pop raise in the vocal during the chorus.  Otherwise, the track treads the water with a careful guitar line, some light flourishes of instrumental accompaniment and a thoughtful drum beat.  It’s great to see an Austin band crafting this sort of music, which definitely seems able to escape the confines of our local scene. You can hear this tune and others on the band’s upcoming record, Preachers, which is being released by The End Records on October 9th.

New Music from Fantasy Rainbow

When I think about the greater effects of the Internet I always look to the likes of Dylan Baldi of Cloud Nothings, creating incredible music that seems rooted in real musical knowledge.  This is the exact sentiment I had when I listened to the track from teenage Oliver Catt, who’s gone on to form a new band with his friends titled Fantasy Rainbow.  Their latest single shows great depth in the songwriting, not to mention the quality of the recording itself.  It’s nice to know that with music now excessively abundant to the masses, a teenager lost in his own world can quietly listen to his idols and craft his own great sound.
