Your ATH SXSW Guide

Ladies and Gentlemenz, we are again pleased to announce to you the 2010 Austin Town Hall SXSW guide.  It’s super fancy and comes with all the bells and whistles you can imagine.  Just like last year, you’ll see a day by day breakdown with the best 3-4 parties going on that day.  You’ll also find an awesome SXSW food guide and a breakdown of the artists playing our showcase on Thursday.  Not enough for ya?  Try plugging that page (http://sxsw.austintownhall.com) into your fancy lil’ iphone.  Now I know you like that.  We’re hoping this site will help you weed through all those parties you’ve been RSVPing to and stick to the ones really worth a damn.  Check out the new page now!  Please keep in mind that we’re going off the information we have as of right now.  More parties are sure to be announced (looking at you Fader Fort) as the week draws closer.  Also, don’t forget to RSVP to our showcase and check out the sweet ATH March music sampler.

ATH March Music Sampler

Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to announce for your listening pleasure the  new Austin Town Hall March music sampler.  This bad boy features 6 tracks from bands playing our showcase on Thursday the 18th, as well as 10 other bands we’re looking forward to seeing during the SXSW week.  That’s 16 in all for you kids that don’t do the math too good… You’ll see familiar ATH favorites like Surfer Blood, Besnard Lakes, and Crayon Fields alongside some of the lesser known acts like The Loom, The Crookes, and Holiday Shores.  I’ll stop blabbing and just direct you all to the new sampler page.  We’re pretty proud of this one so tell all your friends!  Also, don’t forget to get those RSVPs in for our sweet party at The Ghost Room.

ATH On KTSW Tonight

This fine Wednesday evening, yours truly will be heading down to San Marcos to appear on local college radio station KTSW.  I’m slotted to be on the air between 10pm-midnight on the weekly Wednesday show The Party Line w/ BC & Merch.  I’ll be discussing our upcoming day party lineup, giving away some free stuff and of course jammin’ the tunes (while simultaneously judging their taste of course…).  Anyone can tune in online via the KTSW site.  Also say hi to BC & Merch on their website or follow dem on twitter.  Tune in tonight!  Do it!

New Tunes from the New Pornographers

newpornosIn a year that already seems full of releases from our favorite bands, there is yet another one to keep us on pins and needles.  The New Pornographers are set to release their fifth album, Together, on Matador Records on May 4th.  Thanks to the Matablog, we’ve got a new tune to bring your way this morning.  Enjoy!

SXSW Tip #1

Today as those infamous SXSW wristbands go on sale, please take a minute to read our Top 5 SXSW myths post from last year.  Please refer to #4 and see our thoughts on those lil pieces of plastic.  Also, check out SXSW pages from our friends do512, Donewaiting, The Peen Scene, Showlist Austin, Ultra8201, or We Shot Jr. for information on free/RSVP parties.  In the coming weeks we’ll make a short list/seperate site of the parties we recommend to you.  Also stay tuned next week for details on our very own international extravaganza of a Showcase during the festival.  That is all.

The Constantines on Daytrotter

constantinesVancouver’s The Constantines have long been one of my favorite bands (I love their post-punk ways), and I always felt like no on gave them enough appreciation.  Luckily, Daytrotter has done me a favor; they put the band up with an unreleased track to boot!  The rest of the songs come from the group’s most recent effort Kensington Heights.  Check it.

SXSW Radio Stream

So as you’re gearing up to head out to SXSW this year, you probably want to know about what’s hot or what’s cool.  We’d love to help you out, and we will, but now SXSW has set up a radio station where you can stream all the artists that are showcasing at this year’s event.  Keep a note pad handy, and start making that schedule for yourself.  The radio is HERE.

TCV ACL Taping Finally Airs Saturday

Finally!  After around 5 months from it’s original air date, the Them Crooked Vultures ACL taping is finally making it onto the air Saturday (2/13).  Air date looks to be at 7pm, so set your DVR to PBS.  Be sure to look out for some of your friendly ATH staff members, as a few of us were there with faces melted to the floor.  Until Saturday, check out this preview video of “New Fang” over on the PBS site.
