Back in 2010 I stumbled into the Forcefield Party at SXSW looking for a good time, or expecting a good time. Lots of bands were on the bill such as Fresh & Only and Toro y Moi, but the band that stuck with me the most was Beach Fossils. Read more
Having been listening to Too Young To Be In Love for several weeks now, I can say with exact certainty that I was really anticipating this show. It had that throwback appeal, with hints of grit, which is exactly why I couldn’t wait to get to Emos on Tuesday.
After releasing their latest, Belong, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart returned to Austin, riding a wave of credibility and praise. It’s no surprise then that the show was packed, especially considering the opening act, Twin Shadow, had their own wave of hype and adoration. Twas a good night.
Surprisingly, I wasn’t quite exhausted from SXSW, and nor was the near sell-out crowd over at the Mohawk this last Friday night. We all gathered to watch Destroyer, better known as Dan Bejar, not to mention the excellent War on Drugs. As a nice breeze floated in to the venue, you had to know it was going to be a special night.
What’s that you say? How can this be? We have even MORE photos from our new photographer Brian Gray from SXSW week? Thats right kids, this guy took a ton of photos all week long and we wanted to share with you just a few more before calling it good. I mean we really couldn’t resist at least sharing a few photos of Murray Lightburn going crazy on the unknowing crowd in front of him. Here’s to a job well done Mr. Gray. So this guy Brian Gray did quite a bit of running around during SXSW and saw more bands than any human being ever should over the course of 5-6 days. Hell, this guy even managed to pull that off while battling the flu. Lucky for you and me, Brian snapped a huge amount of photos during the week that we plan to share with you in small portions here. We’ve already shared some of his work from the first part of the week, so now we’ll move into the middle parts of the festival. What can I say, the man does great work. Follow the jump for more.
One of our favorite acts, Generationals, are releasing their new album Actor-Castor next Tuesday. We just wanted to give you a little bit of time to get familiar with by streaming it over at KCRW. We’re excited about this album, and this band, as they were one of our favorites at SXSW. So go STREAM the new record.
So we’ve finally wrapped SXSW and everyone is either lying in bed with the worst hangover of their life or back at work in a similar state.
