Rosie Tucker Shares Habanero

I’ve spent the last few days in anticipation of this new track from Rosie Tucker, knowing we’d get it in our hands today. There is just something about the songwriting that always seems to work for me; they take some artistic liberties in the songwriting formula, which for me, gives enough distinctive flavor to keep me coming back to their work. Opening with an analogy to my least favorite pepper, you immediately get introduced to the clever wordplay, and for all intents and purposes, it starts in some familiar territory. But, just after the 2 minute there’s a momentary instrumental breakdown, beginning to toy with their own established sound. Still, the musical turns aren’t over, as they slow the whole tune down to a crawl at 2:40, leaving us with this emphatic thematic push that closes the song in an utterly charming fashion. A new LP, Sucker Supreme, is on its way in April via Epitaph!

Enumclaw Shares Free Drop Billy Video

Every time I listen to Enumclaw it just feels so freeing. There’s no bullshit or pretense, its just the band kind of banging out their own rock n’ roll brand, falling somewhere in between the fuzzy riffs of Wavves and any number of post-punk bands. Listening through to their latest single, it’s all about that bass line, bobbing and weaving beneath a wall of distortion as Aramis Johnson exclaims “I don’t wanna be a loser.” So sure, the band has goals, aims, but they’re also coming to the table with this tenacity that says, here’s our heavy rock tunes, and we’re just going to do it on our terms in our way…and right now, that seems like a whole lot of fun. Their EP, Jimbo Demo is out on April 30th via Youth Riot Records.

The Berries Drop Yet Another Gem

As is usual with me, I am a bit late in sharing this new tune from Matt Berry and his Seattle based project The Berries, but hey it’s just too damn good not to post. The track in question, “Priceless”, shows Berry slowing things down just a bit for a more driving and mellow approach to songwriting. Don’t be fooled by the initial restraint of the tune as it slowly builds over it’s 4.5 minutes and progresses into a truly epic, and beautiful sound.

This song appears on a new single and B-sides compilation entitled Throne of Ivory due out April 23rd on Run For Cover Records.

KAPUTT Return with Movement Now

It’s been almost two years since we last heard from Glasgow’s KAPUTT; I remember thinking then that the band was onto something, ready to break through some of the formulaic post-punk of that year. With their first single since the release of Carnage Hall, I’m pretty sure I’m being proven right, as they seem to have stripped the formula of any form at all, instead crafting this speed-demon of post-punk fury, both spastic and exhilarating. Just listen to the stuttering delivery in the chorus of “movement, n-n-n-n-now!” Then it breaks off into this free form explosion that stutters and squawks until the end. You’ll get this tune on their new Movement Now/Another War Talk EP, out May 14th via Upset the Rhythm.

The Reds Pinks & Purples Share the Biggest Fan

If this new tune from The Reds, Pinks and Purples isn’t on every “best of” list for this week, then I assure you that pop music is 100% dead. You can’t listen to this song and not absolutely swoon at the carefully crafted emotion, all which seems to call out folks like me fawning over our favorite bands! I just imagine the video treatment opens up with Glenn hopping on his bike and riding off through any city center; the song feels upbeat and energetic, despite the haziness of Donaldson’s vocals. It feels like you’re on the verge of something magical, yet you can’t quite get there; it’s wistful and longing, and maybe even harsh, yet you want to smile and hop on your bike to join him on this trek. The best way is to be better than the biggest fan and buy Uncommon Weather from Tough Love/Slumberland before its out on April 9th.

Another Tune from Bart and Friends

When we gave you a heads up about the forthcoming mini-Lp from Bart and Friends, we warned you that Bart Cummings had amassed a who’s who of indiepop to work with him on the new record…and today we’ve got a track starring Pam Berry of Black Tambourine! This run is a fairly sedate affair, like a swinging back and forth with your partner on some late dancefloor as the lights begin to fade with you into the night. Heavy guitar works in contrast with Berry’s crystalline performance, giving off this wistful note. The song’s brief, but the 1:26 mark leaves you with the delightful crest where the jangling notes meet Pam meet Gary Olson’s trumpet for a final pop triumph! Lisasinson Share Tu y Yo

There’s something about listening to Lisasinson that just makes life seem like a whole lot of fun; they fill their songs with joy and fun and hooks and riffs, in turn filling up my rock tank every time they drop a new single. In a few weeks they’ll be dropping a new mini-album, Perdona Mama, so this is our last chance to get a little sneak at what’s in store. The video is filled with antics and a solid rabbit chase, but I’m mostly sold on how consistently the quartet seem to just churn out these crushing pop rock tunes. To me, it’s all about the execution, they don’t try to do too much with the song, just staying steady around a solid vocal melody and quick rhythm lines. Seemingly simple, but it only rips if its done just right, like this lot. Look for the album to drop on April 9th via Elefant Records.

Sasha and the Valentines Drop Don’t You Love Me Video

If you’re not feeling up for Sasha and the Valentines this morning, I can’t really help you out, but if you’re down to give us about 4 minutes you’re going to get rewarded. For starters, how do you not get the feels when that rhythmic pulse doesn’t just start thumping; I’m here shaking my shoulders at my classroom desk. Sarah Addi’s performance is filled with peaks and valleys, subtle when the song’s mood requires, then punching out emphatic syllables to punctuate the beat, only to float her voice across the band’s dreamscape. Energetic and exploratory, you’ll want to turn up this tune. The band will drop So You Think You Found Love on April 16th via Oof Records.

Miss Miranda Shares Daniel

Miss Miranda is the songwriting moniker of Miranda Haney, a recent Austin transplant via Baltimore who I met through my wife’s sister’s boyfriend. She’s been writing some tunes, though Austin hasn’t quite been treated to her songwriting often enough ( insert something about pandemic), so I figured I oughta share them up here. Her latest single is an intimate affair, mostly working with Haney’s voice atop the strum of her guitar. I love the faint quiver in the rising vocals when she meets the chorus for the delivery of “he’s got a voice like Daniel/and a voice you’d recognize.” That there my friends, gives you that 10 seconds of bliss I always crave in my tunes! Anyways, Mondays always end up fairly sedate, so figured I’d close out my day with this one here…a strong new voice from Austin.

Enjoy New Music from Lag Dream

I’m kind of all over the world today, with some ATX stuff, but also tunes from Mexico, Canada and now Japan! P Necobayashi previously worked under the name The Poolitans, but has since changed the working band name to Lag Dream. This is the first single from the renamed project, but employs the same stylistic notes, namely synth heavy indiepop. It’s bouncy from the get go, sort of reminiscent of beach pop you get over here in the States, hitting at little dreamy nuances and obscured vocals. Totally on board already, and looking to get more!
