Darren Hayman Shares New Ditty

I’m really looking forward to the release of Darren Hayman‘s new album, Home Time, so when a new single pops up, you know damn well I’m going to throw a few words behind it. On this number, he’s spliced together footage from the band members various home videos during lockdown, done a nice little wash of colors and thrown it behind this beautiful song. It might be my favorite of the singles that have leaked their way into the world; I love the backing vocals from Laura K and Hannah Winter, perfectly adding harmonic layers to Haymans tunes…particularly the charm right before the 2 minute mark. Home Time is out May 22nd via Fika Recordings.

Jetstream Pony Share Trapped in Amber

Amidst the Friday bandcamp fanaticism, music world still went on, so I wanted to be sure you didn’t skip over the latest single from Jetstream Pony and their forthcoming self-titled LP. To me, this is one of those classic guitar pop tracks; the guitars ring, with just the faintest jangling dangling out in the air; the drums are sharp and steady, keeping things on track with just the right punchiness. Of course, it only succeeds if the vocals wash over us, blowing cooly through the speakers like that feather in Forest Gump. The band will release their self-titled LP on May 22nd via Shelflife and KUS, but you better hurry, as there aren’t many copies left!

Rocking Number From Bee Bee Sea

Looks like we’re off to yet another fun filled week at home with way too much time on our hands to check out a ton of new music. Today I bring you a song called “Daily Jobs” from Italian rock band Bee Bee Sea. It features a sort of scuzzy, fast paced form of post-punk music akin to a guy like Ty Segall, King Tuff or The Oh Sees. Of course if you read this site, you know that means I am very much into this track. Check it out now.

Bee Bee Sea will release new album Day Ripper in October via Wild Honey Records.

Bled Tape Share Can’t Remember

The last few years I’ve really been digging folks writing these little tunes that come in at under a minute; they sort of burrow beneath your soul in an instant, locking themselves in your memory forever, much like this new track from Bled Tape. Musically, it’s a perfect combination of Elvis Depressedly and Elf Power; it’s just on the border of bedroom pop intimacy, though the emotional impact seems likes its destined for far greater things, if you ask me. And, even in its brevity, there’s a slight breakdown, a tiny wrinkle that ultimately leaves an everlasting charm. You’ll find this song on the brand new album Spun Love!

Have Another New Holy Wave Tune

Looks like Nathan has you all set up for some nice streams over the weekend, but I’d also encourage you to check out this new tune from our Austin friends in Holy Wave. “Interloper” is the title track of the bands brand new album and features a lot of the dreamy and psych oriented sounds we’ve grown to love about the band over the years. This one certainly has a Pink Floyd influence behind it, but a more pop orientation. Chalk it up as another hit for the Austin legends.

Holy Wave will release new album Interloped on July 3rd via Reverberation Appreciation Society.

Friday Streams with Pure X, Dummy and Devon Williams

Obviously, today is all about giving a dollar or two towards your favorite artists and labels, and trust us, that’s what we should be doing all year long. But, let’s not forget the music world still must go on too…and there’s a few releases today I wanted to turn your direction towards…maybe say a few words with some links for buying and what not. Check the jump and pick up some stuffs.

Devon Williams Shares Borderline Video

First, Devon Williams drops A Tear in the Fabric today after a six year hiatus; it’s a great collection of pop songwriting that’s unrivaled by most; you can stream it HERE, or buy it from the revered Slumberland Records. But, right now we’re here to share the video from one of the album’s standouts (they’re all standouts in my ear), “Borderline.” For many, this will be one of the easily accessible tunes, akin to Wild Nothing; it’s drenched in this wash of pulsing synth work and sharp guitar riffs, with Williams’ voice dancing around the track in unison with the pounding drums. Mike Cullen’s video matches that mood with these bright visual images, fading in and out of your screen; it’s like a kaleidoscope of pop sketches…kind of matching the collection of Devon’s work throughout the years. Love the song? Be sure to pick up A Tear in the Fabric today.

Neutrals Share Video for Rent

Fresh off the release of the wonderful Kebab Disco, Neutrals turned right around and dropped their Rent/Your House EP, with proceed going directly towards RAICES and Border Angels. Below you’ll find a fresh new video dropping today for the tune “Rent;” the video is made up of images of Scotland shot on Super 8 film by Sandy Carson and spliced together to match this track. It’s one of the shorter tracks on the record, rushing in rambunctiously like all hell’s breaking loose with only Allan’s voice steady enough to right the ship here. A quick little punky jaunt for a good cause? Stream the whole EP on Bandcamp!

Baybs Shares Would You Dare

I thank my father for his early influence in my listening habits, instilling a love for folk before I could even manage to buy my own music. Through the years, that’s always been there, though I tend to gravitate towards the heavier side of the genre, like this track from Baybs. It’s the project of Craig Jacobs, who seems to be confronting his demons on this single, using the lyrics and his songwriting to overcome past anxieties about the world; he gets a little backing vocal aid that really makes the tune, courtesy of Zelma Stone and Melissa Russi. It’s a good little rocking folk track, prepping us for the release of his debut Introvertigo EP, out June 11th via Text Me Records.

Nana Grizol Share South Somewhere Else Title Track

One of the albums on my radar, is the forthcoming South Somewhere Else LP from Nana Grizol, and it seems like the album’s title track kind of slipped by me. On first listen, the song is really all about Theo Hilton’s steady vocal delivery; his voice seems to march in step with the chugging of the guitar lines with thematic references to the narrative of growing up in the South and finding your own footing. For me, however, I’m a sucker for arrangements, even the most obvious ones. Here, you get a fuzzy distorted guitar solo and blossoming horn arrangements fleshing things out; it’s like this joyous burst building buoyancy into fabric of the tune. The new LP will be out on June 19th via Arrowhawk Records/Don Giovanni.
