ATH Council Meeting @ The North Door (6/15)

It’s time once again friends and loved ones to bring ourselves together for yet another ATH Council Meeting at the North Door. This Friday evening, we will once again grace your presence in the back bar of the ND with awesome tunes ranging every decade of our existence on earth.  As always, we’ll have plenty of hits to nod your head to and move your ass to as well.  Let’s not forget that North Door also has some of the best drink specials on the east side, our favorite being the “Son of a Gun” a.k.a. “Hell on Wheels”.  Come join us, drink, and be merry!  We’ll start spinning our tunes a little later this go around, somewhere near the 9pm mark.  Come say hello!

Show Preview: Cave Singers @ Red 7 (6/11)

Date Monday, June 11th
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $10 at the Door

I was so excited to get the chance to see Crocodiles perform tonight at Stubbs that I completely went unaware of the impending show by Cave Singers tonight.  I aim to rectify my oversight, knowing that Cave Singers always bring their A game to the live setting.  Their last record, No Witch, spent a lot of time on my playlist, and I hope you spent some time with it as well.  If you’ve got the funds, then this is definitely a show you should get out and see.  Smoke and Feathers will probably kick things off around 10 PM.

Show Preview: Temper Trap/Crocodiles @ Stubb’s (6/11)

Date Monday, June 11
Location Stubb’s
Doors 700p
Tickets $25 from Frontgate

OK, I know the headliner is Temper Trap, but we here are far more excited to see Crocodiles. I will always love “Sweet Disposition” as one-hit, but Crocodiles killed during Psyche last year putting on a front to back festival set of semi-psyche Jesus and Mary Chain influenced jams, personal favorite being “Sleep Forever”.

Now, they are back with a new album and have an opening spot for a different kind of crowd. Nathan 3.5’ed the latest release, Endless Flowers, which ups the vocal ante and swings away from J&MC and towards POBPAH.

Show Preview: Yacht @ Mohawk (6/8)

Date Friday, June 8th
Location Mohawk
Doors 800 pm
Tickets $12 at the Door

The weather has cooled off a bit, so a full on dance party seems like a bit of fun, right? Well, Yacht always bring a solid amount of danceable pop, so it looks like Mohawk is definitely the place to be for the Friday night.  I’m also going to suggest that you all go and check out Onuinu, who I wrote about a little while back–dude’s make bedroom pop from Portland, so you gotta support his differentiation.  Love Inks will kick everything off, so grab your friends, a few pre-game beverages and go have a blast over at Mohawk.

Doors 800 pm
Tickets CHEAP!!!

We’ve got a great show tonight, featuring one of Austin’s hottest acts; Gorgeous Hands. What? You’ve never heard of them? Well, that’s because they’ve changed their name; they were formerly the Magnificent Snails.  They’ll be releasing a digital single, and the first 100 in the door get the single for free (it’ll be on vinyl in August!).  Also opening the night are several great bands you’ll want to familiarize yourself with if you’re an Austin music fan.  Punk upstarts Dangeresque will open, followed by cool kids, The Couch–and Colorado’s Fierce Bad Rabbit will close out the evening.  You an stream one of the new tracks from Gorgeous Hands below.

Show Preview: England In 1819 @ Frank (6/7)

Date 6/7/12
Location Frank
Doors 9pm
Tickets $6 @ Door

The guys in L.A. based England in 1819 just hit us up recently about their stop into Austin on Thursday night at Frank.  Having known little to nothing about the band prior to right now, I had to have a listen to some of the band’s music and found myself pleasantly surprised.  They have this sort of Sigur Ros meets This Will Destroy You sound that tends to start slow and then finish with a bang.  A preview of this style can be found below with recent track “Waterfall”.  Also on hand for the show is Toy Ghost, Bitter Birds, and Ocean vs. Daughter.  Should be a good one.

Show Pics: Chaos in Tejas (6/3)

Chased the Indie crowd over to Emo’s East on the last night of Chaos in Tejas. Dreams of a comfy photo pit were dashed, but the staff did what they could for the photographers to help us out.

Why were we there? To see the Mind Spiders, of course. Oh wait, the headliner was Best Coast. Did I care? Not so much, but I wanted to shoot them. So, why not check out an ATH favorite and take in the other “openers” Laura Stevenson and the Cans and Lemuria.

Show Pics: Chaos in Tejas (6/2)

After taking a night to relax and sweat at Stubb’s, it was back into the Chaos. Primary venue choice was Club DeVille, but I did pop next door to see the goings-ons.

Club DeVille scored a great lineup for the indie kids with Sea Lions, Royal Headaches and The Clean. I saw more Japanese hardcore at The Mohawk courtesy Zyanose, full mosh pit included. Ironically, I took an elbow to the face while shooting Royal Headache.

Here come the pics…
