Show Preview: Twin Sister @ Emos (8/23)

Date Monday, August 23rd
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $10 @ the Door

This show is surely going to be all the rage, even though I haven’t seen too many people talking about it.  Twin Sister has been blowing up the Interwebs with their fuzzy pop.  It seems like everyone has positive things to say, and that’s definitely not bad for an up-and-coming act.  Also featured on the bill is Memoryhouse and Sleepover, so you’re sure to get an evening of really well crafted atmospheric pop music.  Honestly, this show has the potential to be one of those shows we’ll be talking about in Austin for the rest of the month.

Show Preview: The Sword @ Waterloo (8/23)

Can you even imagine how loud this is gonna be!?  I’ve been to my fair share of Waterloo in-stores and seen some loud ass bands like Colourmusic and Wolfmother, but this may take the cake.  With such a small space and such a hard rocking band like The Sword, this is sure to bust many an ear drum.  You’ve been warned.  It’s free and starts at 7pm so post up early.

We talked to you guys about the great band Paperthreat a few weeks back in our Austin Artist to Watch, as well as our Austin mixtape, and now we’re reminding you that you need to go check out this incredible band before they’re the hottest ticket in town.  Right now, you can see them on the cheap this Saturday night over at Scoot Inn, and they’ll be playing with J Dub & the Tease and The Coast of Nebraska.  We know there’s a lot going on, locally, in town this weekend, but we’ll be rocking it over at the Scoot.

The Wooden Birds are making a name for themselves in and out of Austin so you better hurry to The Parish on Thursday night while you can still see them at such a small venue.  Joining the Austinites on the stage are fellow locals The Mercers and Canadian musician Dan Mangan.  Mr. Mangan is touring in support of the U.S. release of his debut LP Nice, Nice, Very Nice which came out last year in Canada.  Latest single from Dan and his band “Road Regrets” can be found below.

When are these Knuckle Rumbler kids not putting on some sick party these days?  Seems like they’ve always got the hot ticket in town.  Thursday night is no different at Emo’s with a dance party like no other featuring Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt, The Diamonds, Sphynx, and DJ tunes by Hot Britches side project Wolf Teeth.  I’d recommend that anyone looking for a party to make it out for this one.

One of Austin’s hottest up and coming bands TV Torso have a show planned for the inside stage at Emo’s on Wednesday night.  Fellow locals International Waters will be in on the fun as well.  I’d recommend catching this band in this intimate setting before they blow up.  Latest new music from TV Torso “Slanderers’ Stew” can be found below.

Photos: Fresh Millions @ The Parish (8/14)

Saturday night at The Parish we helped put on an awesome show by local bands Fresh Millions, Love at 20, and Superlitebike.  Lucky for you and me, I made a new friend named Charles who just so happened to be a photographer with an impressive portfolio.  After the jump you can find some fancy photos Charles took at the show on Saturday.  If nothing else, you gotta see the badass laser show put on by Love at 20.  Superlitebike were also very impressive as I had never seen them live.  They know how to rock!  Oh and I’m sorry to Fresh Millions for having to bounce before their set, but I’ve seen them live and know they can rock the place as well.  Follow the jump for photos.
