Date 2/8/13
Location Holy Mountain
Doors 9pm
Tickets $6 @ Door

Well ladies and gents, ATH is very happy to announce a little show we sort of helped put together with our amigo over at Above The Radar PR (he did most the work).  So what we have in store is a great lineup up of some of our favorite local bands playing at one of the best new venues in town Holy Mountain.  Check out who is on the lineup below and follow some links to check out their music.

Featherface – Our Houston band playing opener.  Check out their music video for song “I Saw you Dancing” over on their website.

Grape St. – One of our favorite local bands and soon to be the next ATH Records artist.  Here’s a link a song by the band on our site.  Free downloads rule!

Residual Kid – Austin’s youngest and most promising rock band.  These kids are going to be rocking Austin for a long time.  They’ve got a sweet video for “Friend” over on youtube.

Calm Blue Sea – We’ve been supporting this band since our website started over 5 years ago.  They rule the local scene and you need to see them live.  We’re streaming one of their older songs “We Happy Few” below.

To make this more enticing, the show is only $6 so it’s perfect for you cheap asses.

Show Preview: Centro-Matic/ONUINU @ The Mohawk (2/1)

Date 2/1/13
Location The Mohawk
Doors 8pm
Tickets Mohawk @ Frontgate

Double bill of diversity.

First up, Will Johnson blows the dust off of Centro-Matic playing the outside stage. Hoping to get some new tracks out of this deal. Doors are 8pm, show at 9pm with Frank Smith and Moonlight Towers opening. I really enjoy Moonlight Towers for some just plain rock, got to hang with James at EAR studios during SxSW a few years back, super good people. Should be a lovely evening ($13 doors/$15 will call). A lil Centro-Matic action to put you in the mood.

Things double back and head indoors for ONUINU on the inside stage. Portland based Dorian Duvall brings his show to town so you can dance. Love Inks and Roger Sellers open up ($8 door/$10 will call). Here is some ONUINU to get you in the mood, or if you fill AV, go here to see and hear the latest..

Show Pics: Purity Ring @ The Mohawk (1/23)

As the set time sheet at The Mohawk read, SOLD THE FUCK OUT. Three ticket agents were sitting out front asking for extra tickets. Guess the ticket agents are big Purity Ring fans.

Doors were at 7:30, but that was a last minute change from 6:30. That meant a giant line in for both doors and rail campers right away. I knew it would be a challenge to move through the masses, but I was ready to get smooth electro bounce BUZZ jams on in full effect. Young Magic started the night.

Click past the break for plenty of pics…

Show Preview: Tiger Waves (Purity Ring After Show) @ Mohawk (1.22)

Look, I know all of Austin is excited for the SOLD OUT Purity Ring set at Mohawk, as I hear the band is a big deal.  But, that being said, if you’re not sticking around afterwards or not headed into the venue when the show is over, you’re going to miss out on two of Austin’s most promising acts.  We’ve been behind Black Books and Tiger Waves from the start, and the more each group progresses, the more we continue to be amazed by their performances.  Plus, Tiger Waves head out on tour the next day to represent Austin, so we’ve gotta send our boys off on the right foot!  I promise those of you with an appreciation for interesting pop music, you won’t want to skip out.  Here’s a song by Tiger Waves and Black Books, respectively, just to entice you a bit more.

Show Pics: The English Beat @ The Mohawk (1/18)

Being the old guy around here has its advantages. And when I say I remember the classics, it means bands before Vampire Weekend.

One such band that everyone knows because of movie soundtracks (Grosse Point Blank, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, SLC Punk!, Weird Science) and numerous spin-offs and side projects (because of band disagreements), is The English Beat. The American touring version is Dave Wakeling’s band of solid musicians; Dave shares The English Beat name with Rankin Roger who tends to stay across the pond.

Locals The Inverters got to open. A few words and plenty of pics follow.

The Eastern Sea @ The Parish (1.19)

Date Saturday, January 19th
Location The Parish
Doors 8:00 PM
Tickets $12 from The Parish

After an excellent 2012, The Eastern Sea is taking aim at the New Year, bringing their sounds to The Parish–they’ll benefit from such an excellent sound board.  Their release of Plague last year made a lot of year end lists, including our own, so you can expect an incredible set from the group Saturday night.  They’ll be joined by The Kopecky Family Band and Emily Wolfe on the evening, rounding out a solid bill for a jam-packed weekend of music.  If you like you’re tunes well-crafted, then this is the place to be this weekend.
