Photo Pop 2012 Preview: Rick Kern @ Red 7 (11.9)

Here’s another one of the great photographers that will be displaying and selling their photography at Photo Pop 2012 this Friday at Red 7.  If you’re lucky, Rick might give you the sexy photo of me stuffing my face with a cupcake backstage at ACL.  His photo to the left is from a GWAR shoot, and you can also read on to find out why he’s mad I called Emily Haines to just chat. Here’s Rick.  Read more

FFF 2012: Sunday In Pictures

Final day. Your feet, lungs and liver have taken a beating, but the pain feels good now.

I had a busy slate of things I wanted to check out on Sunday. I started bright and early to catch favorite locals on the upswing and kept after through the headliner. Final installment of shots from FFF7 will bring you Flesh Lights, Ume, Balmorhea, Cult of Youth, Bleached, A Place to Bury Strangers, Class Actress, Trust, Deerhoof, The Promise Ring, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Black Angles, De La Soul and Edward Sharpe.

Tons of eye candy after the break.

FFF 2012: Friday In Pictures

Minor set back for this photographer wasn’t going to slow me down. I had limited access to photo pits on Friday which luckily was remedied before getting going on Saturday. It meant I got to spend a little more time in the crowd, getting shots of the festival, the people.

I did manage to get some musicians doing their thing as well, don’t panic.

The Friday edition includes Sharon Van Etten, Orthy, Bob Mould, Napalm Death, Cursive, Dum Dum Girls and plenty of atmosphere. Hit the break.

Well now this ladies and gentlemen is one hell of a show we’ve got going down in Austin on Thursday night at the Mohawk.  Our headliner for the evening is legendary band Superchunk on the outside stage. That alone should be enough for most of you, but let’s also mention that supporting outside bands are Imperial Teen and Joyce Manor so that should sweeten the deal.  Oh and you’ve also got some awesome up and coming bands playing the inside stage known as Terrible Feelings, Mind Spiders, Wiccans, and The Impalers.  I wish could say that’s all folks, but also remember that the entire show is FREE with your Fun Fest wristband.  Thanks you Mohawk and thank you Transmission.  You rule.

Show Preview: Divine Fits @ Stubbs (10/31)

Date 10/31/12
Location Stubbs
Doors 7pm
Tickets $20 @ Frontgate

Tomorrow is everyone’s favorite spooky holiday and a great way to celebrate would be heading over to the Divine Fits show over at Stubbs.  With one ATH crew member already verifying that the supergroup can pull of one hell of a live show, this is sure to be a must see show.  Oh and let’s not forget that ATH approved band Cold Cave is providing opening support, so now I just don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t be here.

We’ve also heard that a costume contest is going down along with some horror movie snippets between band performances.  I’m in.

Photo Pop 2012: Photography and Rock n’ Roll @ Red 7 (11.9)

I’ve been waiting to make this announcement since we first began planning Photo Pop 2012, which takes place Friday, November 9th.  As a native Austinite I realize how important the community aspect of the local music scene is, so I wanted to highlight some of our favorite photographers who work their tails off to bring you the best footage of our local scene.  Photographers Rick Kern, Brian Gray, Tim Griffin, Pooneh Ghana, Randy Cremean and Gary Miller will be displaying and SELLING prints of their favorite photography shot here in Austin.  A portion of those proceeds will go to HAAM.  But, that’s not the end of it.  Since the photography wouldn’t go down without the rock, we’re putting on a show afterwards with some of our favorite local bands: Gender Infiniti, Low Times, Tiger Waves, Shivery Shakes and Grape Street.  It’s a chance to enjoy some incredible photography (and get your hands on some good prints) plus stay and enjoy the rock n’ roll. Or you can choose one or the other, just be sure to support the local scene; it’s what makes it great. Here’s a tune from one of the bands, Tiger Waves.
