Pleased to Meet You: Cave Babies

caveMan, I don’t know how we all do it. There’s so much music out there, that it’s hard to really dig into every thing. Luckily, I always can count on a few labels, like Lost Sound Tapes, who today just introduced me to Cave Babies. The label will be releasing a new tape from the project on February 26th, and our first listen has me really intrigued. It reminds of bedroom pop blended with some of the early work of Jens Lekman. There’s an innocence that’s enchanting and hard to pull yourself away from, so take a listen and enjoy your time. Grab a copy from the label HERE.

Beverly Strikes Again With Pop-Punk Bliss

12185003_1051680674852721_2170054358121692146_oBrooklyn’s Beverly has already burst into the indie scene as proponents of the This time around, they’ve enlisted the help of ATH favorite, Kip Berman, of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, to provide his well cultivated guitar riffs and overall magic to their sound. The result is infectious, pop bliss with that choral hook that will have you singing right along. The guitars are edgy and gritty, contrasting with the sleek vocals of Drew Citron. It’s safe to say that we’re excited for their upcoming release,The Blue Swell, which will be out in May on Kanine Records.

Enjoying Choir of Young Believers

Upload_SxSW2ndSt_2012_03_16-18_58_01Copenhagen based Choir of Young Believers is a band we consider dear to us as old friends and former SXSW showcase alums. That said, we’ve always followed the band closely since then and today I’m excited to share their new single “Perfect Estocada”. Older fans of the band will recognize the almost dreamy like pop created here with some new and creative electronic/R&B elements added to create a memorable song.

You can pick up new albumGrasque on February 19th via Ghostly International.

More from Deep Sea Diver

dsdThe other day I got a sneak peek at Secrets, the new record from Deep Sea Diver, and I’m really impressed with what I hear, thus why we’re sharing the new single with you. For me, it’s the prime example of modern pop music, blending elements of accessible mainstream and indie rock into one huge wall of infectious tunes. Good tracks won’t let you pull away, and this is one of em’. Look for their new effort to hit on February 19th via High Beam.

ICYMI: Crisp Pop From Day Wave

12593504_468969969953751_163989100646231908_oDay Wave, or the project of Oakland’s Jackson Phillips, has become one of those bands that we can count on to deliver spot on lo-fi/synth pop tunes and so it’s not a surprise that we’re posting about him again. The latest news from Day Wave is that he’s got a doubleEP coming out pretty soon, which is called Headcase/Hard to Read. From that upcoming release, Phillips has shared “Gone,” which is a stunning example of the infectious pop tunes that Day Wave really excels at. The guitars cut cleanly through the mix, while the vocals are hazy and far away. Take a listen and preorder the double EP here.

Show Spotlight: X_X and Obnox @ Barracuda (TONIGHT!)

xxxIf you call yourself a fan of punk rock, modern or old school, you either end up at this show over at Barracuda or you’re a fraud. For starters, the night kicks off with local rockers Marriage and Coma in Algiers…no slouch in their own right. But, you get a touch of history with X_X, a band fronted by John D Morton (the electric eels). This guy’s been making real rock n’ roll for so long, it’s hard to ignore. And, the drummer for X_X is one of my favorite rockers Lamont Thomas, who will also be bringing along his band Obnox. You think Ty Segall is prolific? You haven’t heard Lamont.

Tickets are only 10 bucks and the Doors are at 9 PM. Come get your rock on!

The Coathangers Are Back w/ a New Album

CoathangersIn case you haven’t noticed for the last several years, I’m a pretty huge fanboy when it comes to Coathangers. So, I’m ecstatic that there’s brand new Coathangers music for me to consume and fawn all over (though they did just do a split). But, here you have Stephanie (or Rusty Coathanger) offering up her scratchy growl, in the most intoxicating fashion. Since the girls have stripped down to a three-piece, they’re songs have become so incredibly tight as a unit, that it’s hard not to just fall for each piece they write. Their new effort is titled Nosebleed Weekend, and it’s out on April 15th via Suicide Squeeze Records.

New Video from The Ocean Party

oceanpartyHave you not realized how great The Ocean Party is yet? I think, in my opinion, people will be clamoring for their back catalog in a short time, as the band continue their rise by crafting incredible pop songs. This new video is from their latest effort, Light Weight, which we are handling for them over here in the US. On this track, the title track from the record, I think the band are successful in just giving you pure pop bliss; it’s one of the songs on the record that you might skip at first, but find yourself proclaiming it as one of their best in the long run. If you want a copy, pick it up HERE.

More from Good Morning

12622106_1636567596608368_9213207835973974193_oAs last year came to a close, we brought you a tune from the latest Good Morning release, “Cab Deg,” which we were really excited about. On their newest single, things have been stripped down, releasing a solemnity that’s both soothing and intriguing. I love the feeling of a good home recording, there’s something comforting in that…and while this may be a studio track, it has the personal feel of that bedroom soliloquy. The group’s second EP, Glory, is set to be released early next week via the folks over at Solitaire Recordings.

Stream Summer Salt’s Going Native EP

sideaWe’re putting this Going Native EP out with the wonderful lads of Summer Salt. I don’t want to say too much on it because I honestly think the music, and the band’s live set speak for themselves. I promise you…in the next few months, if not the next few years, people will be talking about these dudes as one of the best in town. They celebrate with a release show at End of an Ear on Friday at 6 PM…or they also have a house show the following night that you can read about HERE.

If you want a copy, and I promise you that you do. Grab it HERE or HERE. It comes on rad green vinyl, and the image here is on the A Side…the B Side is a surprise!
