New Jam from Radstewart

radstewartThat’s right. Rad-stewart, not Rod Stewart.  Huge difference. They have a brand new single coming out on Art Reeks, which we’ve previously mentioned as the collaboration between Reeks of Effort and Art Is Hard…two small labels with great rosters.  They’ve got a 12″ compilation called Art Reeks coming out shortly, and they’ve just put up a new song from Radstewart. The tune reminds me a lot of Art Brut; it starts off with a bit of art-pop, then moves into a bombastic explosion of joy.  It’s the kind of tune that is able to turn any frown upside down.  Pick up your copy HERE.

More New Music from Withered Hand

witheredhandI was actually wondering about Slumberland Records earlier this week.  They kicked a lot of ass opening 2013, and they’ve been relatively quiet in 2014. But, as long as the label is putting out tunes like this latest track from Withered Hand, then there needs to be no complaining from anyone, myself included.  The project of Dan Wilson sounds incredible here, with these strong melodies, delivered in a calm manner.  It’s not a forceful track, but one that just rides this wave of quality vocals and steady musical accompaniment.  The stunner will appear on New Gods, which will be released on March 25th.

New Music from Horse Thief

horsethiefI’ve got a soft spot for Horse Thief.  They’re a Texas band that moved to Oklahoma (where I went to college) to attend The School of Contemporary Music, where a few of our friends teach.  I can’t say whether or not any of those friends influenced what’s on this record, but regardless, I’m enjoying the finished product.  It lays somewhere in the realm of light-hearted indie rock, but there’s creativity in the various layering placed atop the track, be it shakers or piano or guitar work. Their album Fear In Bliss will be released by Bella Union on April 14th; it should definitely be something on your radar.

Austin Spotlight: Genuine Leather Release New Single

TheEnemyWe’ve encouraged you to listen to Genuine Leather before, the project of Chris form Gorgeous Hands, but if you haven’t taken heed, then perhaps this new single is going to be the perfect one to get you on the train. It takes aim right at the heart of pop songwriting, and succeeds without a doubt.  The sound of the guitar strumming as the track chugs along really reminds me of the purity that exists in good composition.  No word as of yet whether or not this is going to appear on an upcoming album, or just float on as a great single, but you should talk a listen regardless.

Catchy Girl Pop from Habibi

habibiThose of you looking to sink your teeth into sugary female-fronted pop need to go straight ahead and press play on this great  track.  It’s the new single from the girls’ just released, self-titled album, which is filled with songs that are as clever as they are endearing.  Each time I press play on the album, I end up just bobbing my head and cracking a smile.  It’s the sort of music we all need to break us out of our winter time doldrums.  You’re going to want to listen to this and make your day infinitely better.

New Tunes From Elephant

Elephant-006UK based Elephant is a band that we posted about in the past and we’ve been anxiously awaiting to hear more from them.  Today I’ve found another track from the band called “Elusive Youth” that is yet another atmospheric pop gem from the band.  I love the playful nature of the track as we dance through the tune mesmerized by the enchanting vocals of leading lady Amelia Rivas.  Enjoy it with me.

New album, Sky Swimming, is coming out on April 28th via Memphis Industries.

AJ Davila Releases New Single

ajdavilaYou can’t go through a Monday without having a little bit of a pick-me-up, so I think this new tune from AJ Davila is the perfect way to give you a little bit of crunch as we struggle to start off our week. AJ is most well-known for his work in Davila 666, but he’s going it on his own right now to release Terror/Armor on February 18th via Nacional Records.  It’s a number rooted in the history of rock n’ roll, with loud guitars reading out, touched up with a demonic vocal sample in the background.  Simple and fun. Perfect for Monday afternoon listening.

New Music from September Girls + SXSW

septemberWe were definitely some of the first folks to cover the dream pop of September Girls, thanks to the work of our friends at Matinee Recordings.  But, it’s high time we threw something new your way from these lovely ladies.  They’ll be releasing their album, Cursing the Sea, via Fortuna Pop on March 11th, offering up this dreamy rock that is begging for you to sink your teeth into.  And, if that wasn’t enough, the ladies will be heading our way in Austin to play a few sets at SXSW, so if you’re going to be in town, you best get acquainted with them now before they’re the next big thing.

New Music From The Tower of Light

TTOL_photo1I’ve been looking for some way to describe this new tune “Honey Resist” from Brooklyn based The Tower of Light, but I am coming up majorly short.  Some may place it in the shoe gaze genre, and I’d be cool with that I guess?  I’m hearing something more than that hear with the mesmerizing atmospheric feel to the song.  And damn, those vocals put me in a trance.

Check out the new self-titled album on February 4th via Felte.
