Mellow Folk From Neil Halstead

Sometimes I can use a bit of a break from the usual catchy pop tune or punk  jam that we seem to bring day in and day out. Hopefully this new song “Digging Shelters” from Neil Halstead will mix things up a bit and provide a sort of calming influence on those of you stressed out during the early part of this week.  It really is a soothing tune that is beautifully written as a slow ballad to ease your ear drums.  A new album from Neil, Palindrome Hunches, will be coming on November 5th via Sonic Cathedral Recordings.

Stream A Song I Decided I Like

I have always liked Black Moth Super Rainbow, but for only about a minute and thirty seconds. When “Windshield Smasher” was released a few weeks ago, I was pretty ‘meh’.

I listened to a mixtape Tobacco did for SiriusXMU that featured the song and since then, this track keeps finding ways into my earholes to infect my mindgrapes. Guess what, I dig this song now. It starts more percussive, but builds a bit into normal BMSR territories and then gets groovy, rinse, repeat. So yeah, this is my post to share and just say hey *nicejobsport*, I’m a fan.

New album, Cobra Juicy, hits 10/23 just in time for merch booths at their (spoiler alert) FFF Nites show at The Mohawk 11/3 and their FFF set on 11/4. <<<< The internet eats its own. More New Rock From Unnatural Helpers

A couple months ago I shared a new rockin’ tune from recent Hardly Art Acquisition Unnatural Helpers called “Hate Your Teachers”.  Well today I have another new song for you going by the name “Toil” and it rocks just as hard as that last tune.  Don’t forget that the band have a new album coming out on September 25th entitled Land Grab.  It’s sure to be a hot one.

Soft Gem from King Creosote

One of the things I hate about the US is that it’s really hard to get the good vinyl from the UK without paying a hefty sum.  If it weren’t so, I’d definitely have my house filled with the beautiful sounds of Kenny Anderson, aka King Creosote.  Today, he’s releasing his newest collection of tunes, a three song EP titled To Deal With Things.  On this particular tune, Anderson quietly enters the fold, letting his vocals brood and build, just before the drums slightly pick up the pace.  For me, there’s not a more mesmerizing voice these days, especially when it’s accompanied by the dark undertones of the music present. Enjoy.

New Rocker from The Demon Beat

You all know I love my rock n’ roll given to me with a nice little punch in the face, which is exactly how I feel with this new jam just released by The Demon Beat.  The group’s preparing to release their new album, Less is Less, which comes out in September via Funny/Not Funny Records.  I feel like the group’s got a solid garage rock feel, but the vocals have a bit of a scratchy drawl, prompting me to give into these guys more punk rock leanings.  It’s definitely an energy filled hit, so I hope it helps keep your day real.

New Music From Flock Of Dimes

I really can’t seem to get enough of Jenn Wasner as of late.  After the recent show in Marfa with her veteran band Wye Oak, I found myself returning to the band’s back catalogue and falling in love all over again.  Her songwriting is always superb and her voice is easily one of the best female voices in the game.  This post is about Flock of Dimes though, which you may or may not know, is the more experimental side project of the Wye Oak leading lady.  A new tune by her solo endeavor called “Curtain” can be found below in a handy soundcloud streamer.  It’s a great little number that somehow garnishes even more respect from this guy.  You can pick up a hard copy of this tune on 7″ via Merge Records on September 25th.

New (ish) Dream Pop from Holidays

Not quite sure why I haven’t heard of Holidays yet, but I’m glad I came across them today.  This Roma group have crafted an album of perfect dream pop that I wish I had stumbled upon earlier in the summer–better late than never, am I right? It’s filled with an homage to all your favorite American bands of the moment, using warm electronic sounds and California surf rock to sculpt hooks galore.  If you’re into this jam, which I know you will be, you can head over to Keep It Yours Records and pick up the Young Love LP from Holidays; it’ll carry you through the rest of these warm summer days.

New Tunes from Life In Film

Man, I’m really excited to bring you this new tune from Life In Film, a little known British group that should be making waves over here soon.  They’ve just put out their Needles & Pins EP, and it’s got some great hits on it that I think you’ll all enjoy.  Okay, I can definitely hear hints of Chris Martin in the vocals, but I can overlook that.  The construction of the song is what happens to turn me on here, with these bright angular guitar sounds, sometimes stuttering a bit in the middle of the track.  It ends up crafting this wonderful single that I’m going to dare you not to love.

Video: Deep Time – “Gold Rush”

Deep Time is an ATH Favorite.

Given the strong opening set at the recent Mynabirds show and their show tonight at The Mohawk, it should come as now surprise that we would want to share a video they released for the song “Gold Rush”.

The video was directed by Cassandra Hamilton and features frivolous ghosties playing on the left coast. Moreover, this is one of my favorite songs by the band so please check it out.

New Tune From Daughn Gibson

I know many of you have already heard this track over the last couple of days on other sites, so I’ll go ahead and apologize for being a little late to the game.  That aside, something about this electronica/country/deep vocals movement going on by Daughn Gibson is extremely interesting to me at the moment.  It just seems more creative than your everyday electronica band and the unique vocals really add a nice touch to each track.  This new song below “Reach Into The Fire” is a single of sorts hoping to drum up some positive press for Daughn’s recent signing to Sup Pop Records.  A brand new album, to follow up his underrated solo debut All Hell from earlier this year, is said to be available sometime next year on his new label.
