Saviours @ Emo’s Tonight

On this Monday night, Emo’s Austin has chosen to bring the metal back into your life with Saviours. The band hails from Oakland and is one of the few bands that can still play metal the right way. If you’ve got a case of the Mondays, Saviours will knock you out of that coma and slam your week into high gear. Doors for the show are at 7 and you can read more on the Emo’s website. Also, check out song “Cavern of Mind” for a pretty accurate show preview.

These United States On Daytrotter

These United States showed up on an encore performance on Daytrotter. We say encore because the band already performed for Daytrotter way back in March of 2007. Check out the band’s latest session on the slick Daytrotter website. Also, check out standout track “Burn This Bridge” from the performance in mp3 format below.

Little Joy vs. Los Hermanos

I’m all kinds of into audience participation, so I thought I would throw one more your way. Today, we will debate over whether the singer for Fabrizio Moretti’s (of The Strokes fame) newest project, Little Joy, is in fact better suited to front a band backed by Fab or by his old band, Los Hermanos. The kids love Little Joy, and Devandra Banhart produced the album, but something about the bossanova sounds of Los Hermanos are really working for me today. You make the call.

New Music from The Decemberists

We all love The Decemberists, and we are stoked to hear that they are releasing a series of singles this year (October 14, November 4, December 2). The single series is titled “Always a Bridesmaid,” and this is the track off the opening single titled “Valerie Plame.” Those in the know might recognize the name, but for now, let’s just listen to the tune. Gentlemen Jesse and His Men

I cannot stop listening to this album, or this song; Gentlemen Jesse and His Men seem to know where its at. Sure, it’s a little bit of a throwback, but we all loved The Strokes the first time around right?  Blast this song into the afternoon, and if you dig it like I do, then you can find the band’s self-titled debut out now on Douchemaster Records.

Stereolab @ Emo’s (9/24)

Stereolab, now working on 18 years of existence, will be playing at La Zona Rosa on Wednesday evening.  The show may be one of the only legit shows going down this week that has nothing to do with ACL.  Tickets for the show are $25 and can be bought from Gettix.  Below is a song from the band’s 2008 album Chemical Chords entitled “Three Women”.

Whitley

This Aussie gentleman, Whitley, has been getting a lot of buzz lately so we thought it’d be a good time to jump on the hype machine.  Some of you may know that he put out an album about a year ago in Australia called The Submarines that received a ton of critical acclaim.  Now we the people of the United States will finally get our hands on this album September 30th.  Catch a preview of the album with “A Shot to the Stars” below.
