New Music From Danielson

This new song from Danielson has been popping up on a lot of sites recently and we wanted to share it with you guys.  The tune “Grow Up” is set to appear on upcoming album Best of Gloucester County out on Feb. 22nd.  This will be the first new LP from the band in five years and we ATH staff members couldn’t be more excited.

Southern Shores

Last week our friends over at Bad Panda Records sent us this new track from Berlin via Canada based band Southern Shores.  It reminds me a bit of The Go Team if they were to dope up on some downers and take the energy level down a notch.  The song also has a accompanying video that I’ve been enjoying over on Vimeo.  You can read more about this band and hear one other song from them over on their Bad Panda home page.

Free Xmas Album from Banjo or Freakout

It seems that as the holidays approach, everyone is getting in on the action.  Not to be outdone, Banjo or Freakout is offering up not just any Xmas track, but an entire album of Xmas songs.  Now, be forewarned, this doesn’t sound anything like traditional Christmas fair, which is precisely why you should check this out, not to mention the fact that its FREE. And, if you haven’t gotten to know Alessio and his band by now, do so, as the work he showcases in his Xmas album is indicative of the great stuff he’s already putting together.  Here’s a sample of what you will get if you just go HERE.

New Music from Goldenboy

California native Shon Sullivan definitely wears his influences on his sleeve, or should we just say wears his home state on his sleeve.  His band, which is mainly his work, Goldenboy are releasing their new record, Sleepwalker, on Eenie Meenie Records February 8th.  There’s a bit of a harboring spirit, but what follows through the entire album is sort of a ray of light, which is where once can tie in the mention of California, not to mention Shon’s adoration for the late (great) Elliott Smith. One listen to this single and perhaps you’ll fall head over heels for Goldenboy, leading you towards Sleepwalker early next year.

More New Music From Two Wounded Birds

This summer we posted a new beach rock song from UK band Two Wounded Birds called “My Lonesome”.  Well now we’ve got new track “Night Patrol” that appears on the recently released EP Keep On Dreaming Baby.  The first track we posted reminded us of Twin Peaks, so we’ll stick with the theme music idea and compare this jam to one you might find on a James Bond soundtrack.  You can hear the entire new EP from Wounded Birds on their bandcamp site or buy a physical copy from Holiday Records.

New Tunes from Beach Fossils

After breaking out a pretty solid debut, Beach Fossils are at it again, ready to release a new EP on Captured Tracks, which is quickly making waves in my book. The collection is titled What a Pleasure, and it adds just another thing to look forward to on February 22nd.  You’ll find that the vocals are really up front in the mix, while the guitar just sort of meanders back and forth throughout the song.  It’s got a feeling of labelmates (and founder) Blank Dogs, if you removed the fuzziness and distortion.  Neither of those things are bad in my book, but that’s just one man’s opinion.  I’ll let you make the final call.

New Music From Mountain Goats

ATH fave band The Mountain Goats posted new song “Tyler Lambert’s Grave” on their twitter page yesterday.  It’s been made very clear that the track will in fact not be appearing on upcoming album All Eternals Deck due out March 29th on Merge.  Mountain Goats leading man John Darnielle has said that the track is intended to preview the new direction of the band but didn’t quite fit in well with the other material.  Hope this tides over you fans until March.

Free Sampler From Bad Panda Records

Our amigos over at Bad Panda Records are celebrating their very first birthday with a free sampler of music from the label.  The freebie features 18 tracks from such artists as Great Lake Swimmers, Frederik Teige, James Yates, and tons more.  Below we’ve got a taste of the new sampler with “Kind of Guy” from Yawn.  It’s a winner!

New Track (and album) from Rural Alberta Advantage

In case you missed out on the last Rural Alberta Advantage album, Hometowns, you’ll have a chance come March 1st to grab their new one, Departing.  The band created quite a buzz with their last effort, so our bet is that this round will be no different than the last.  It’s going to be coming out on Paper Bag Records, with a little help from the great kids over at Saddle Creek.  The intro really uses the cutting guitar to build some tension, but then the vocals kick in, using the pounding rhythm to really kick up the pace.  Just listening to this track makes you appreciate the spirit of the band.  Consider me stoked, brah.
