Cat Power @ Stubbs (10/11)

The always lovely Chan Marshal, known to us as Cat Power, will be putting on a rescheduled show at Stubbs on Saturday night.  The show is a make up of her canceled show way back in April, and of course Stubbs will be honoring any tickets bought to the previously scheduled show.  If you need a ticket, get one for $30 on the Front Gate Tickets website.  Also check out Cat Power’s most recent single “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again” originally performed by Bob Dylan.

The Strange Boys @ Beerland (10/10)

Another one of those Austin bands that everyone should know about, The Strange Boys, will be showcasing their talents at Beerland tomorrow evening.  Other local acts Cause for Applause and The Bad Sports will be opening things up.  Beerland doesn’t sell tickets online so make sure you’ve got some cold hard cash to get in the door.  Get yourself excited for the show with The Strange Boys cover “Baby Please Don’t Go” originally by Big Joe Williams.

Free Josh Reichmann EP

The good people at Paper Bag Records are bringing you a free digital EP download from Josh Reichmann’s latest project The Josh Reichmann Oracle Band.  If you aren’t familiar with Mr. Reichmann, he was a founding member of Tangiers and later performed under the moniker Jewish Legend.  If that still doesn’t ring a bell, download the free EP (after providing a legit email address) or check out track “Believe in Souls” below.

More New Matt & Kim

About a month ago we gave you the new Matt & Kim track “Good ol Fashion Nightmare” and now we give you more. This new track is called “Daylight” and is oddly released by the new Mountain Dew/Pepsi label Green Label Sound. Who knew Mountain Dew was puttin’ out tunes. Regardless of their label choice, Matt & Kim continue to make some pretty solid pop jams.

Japanese Motors

We read about this new SoCal band, The Japanese Motors, a few places online and thought they were worthy of mentioning. The song we have for your listening pleasure is entitled “Spendin’ Days” and appears on the bands self-titled effort due out 10/7. It’s quite the catchy little diddy.

Saviours @ Emo’s Tonight

On this Monday night, Emo’s Austin has chosen to bring the metal back into your life with Saviours. The band hails from Oakland and is one of the few bands that can still play metal the right way. If you’ve got a case of the Mondays, Saviours will knock you out of that coma and slam your week into high gear. Doors for the show are at 7 and you can read more on the Emo’s website. Also, check out song “Cavern of Mind” for a pretty accurate show preview.

These United States On Daytrotter

These United States showed up on an encore performance on Daytrotter. We say encore because the band already performed for Daytrotter way back in March of 2007. Check out the band’s latest session on the slick Daytrotter website. Also, check out standout track “Burn This Bridge” from the performance in mp3 format below.

Little Joy vs. Los Hermanos

I’m all kinds of into audience participation, so I thought I would throw one more your way. Today, we will debate over whether the singer for Fabrizio Moretti’s (of The Strokes fame) newest project, Little Joy, is in fact better suited to front a band backed by Fab or by his old band, Los Hermanos. The kids love Little Joy, and Devandra Banhart produced the album, but something about the bossanova sounds of Los Hermanos are really working for me today. You make the call.
