Darkened Pop from Midwife
Odds are that you had Belgium making the World Cup final, so you’re probably a little bummed out today. Me too. But, in hopes to remedy that we’ve got this track from Midwife to calm your ills, and perhaps transport you to a better place. The entirety of this tune works over a solemn electronic note, accompanied by wave after wave of washed atmospherics. Bubbling beneath it all, like whispers shared between lovers are the lyrics, coated in various effects that maximize the emotive pull of the tune. This number will appear on the group’s new Prayer Hands EP, out at the end of July via Antiquated Future.

It’s only been a few months since the debut from Emma Russack & Lachlan Denton, but they must have enjoyed the partnership quite a bit, as they already have a second record waiting for you. This picks up right where one would expect, though Lachlan takes the lead here on this number; he’s got this warm delivery that I always find intoxicating. Emma adds her voice to the chorus, proving the perfect accompaniment. I love how these two just sit in this homeostatic pop wonder world, not pushing anything to the extremes, only holding on to their pop penmanship. Keep on Trying is out on July 18th via

Summer time brings Summer Magic! Summer Magic brings bright hook-laden pop tunes! I love exclamation points! So this song snuck into my head and it won’t leave. There’s something nostalgic that it brings up, especially when the vocals change slightly during the chorus…feels familiar like great pop songs do. Something from the snare work to the melody definitely recalls summer time, so the name’s definitely apt. This song will feature on the new album Sharks and Other Dangers, which will be available to the masses on August 31st. Go on, be a pop fan.
