Powerful Number From CREO

Well now that’s an introduction to a band. Yes this new song called “Subtitles For X, Y, Z” is proving as a very strong first step forward for Sydney based outfit CREO. It’s rare to find a song which seemingly evolves into 2-3 different styles as we are taking through the depths of the three and a half minute opus. What begins as anthemic rock similar to earlier Arcade Fire build and builds as it ends with over a minute of gritty and angry, throaty vocal infused rock. We can all find a little something to like in that right?

CREO will release new EP Subtitles For X, Y, Z on September 8th.

Hear a Gem from Worst Place

Worst Place is an up-and-coming London outfit, and they’re coming out of the gates with this new single sounding like a nice blend of gazy dream pop and Alvvays. There’s this cascading guitar chord that seems to be moving away throughout the whole song, juxtaposed to the soft pleasantries of the vocal mix. Pounding keys and ringing chords create a cacophony during the chorus that’s sure to enthrall. Probably just going to put this out as one of the best tracks you’ll hear all week; it comes your way courtesy of Art Is Hard Records.

Dark Bit of Post Rock from The Boxing

While the Boxing typically take on more psychedelic vibes, their new single goes in a slightly different direction, bringing in darkened corners and combining them with some of the last influences of Britpop. Guitars carry that sensation of drowning, angular and muffled. But, what really stood out to me is the pop-centric chorus, definitely allowing the band to walk the fine line of their various influences. I don’t know, maybe that’s my wishful thinking, trying to superimpose Britpop’s revival on these lads. Whatever the case, it’s a solid jam for a Wednesday.

Dreamy New Track From Widowspeak

The Brooklyn music scene am I right? It’s like a new band comes our way from the area almost everyday and it continues to shock me. We represent Brooklyn again today with this track called “The Dream” from Widowspeak. It’s definitely a dream pop number reminiscent of pioneers like Beach House or even newbies like Alvvays. You are sure to sink in and be swept away with the beauty of this track.

Widowspeak will release Expect the Best on August 25th via Captured Tracks.

Show Preview: Fleet Foxes @ ACL Live (08/16, 08/17)

Indie folk gods, Fleet Foxes, are coming to our city tomorrow and Thursday and if you don’t have tickets yet you best get to stepping and try to find some, as these two evenings are bound to be nights to remember. The last time Austin played host to Robin Pecknold and company was the 2011 ACL festival, so it will be nice to see the band again with full and proper sets in an intimate setting–the Moody Theater seems like the perfect venue for such a group. A lot of time has passed since then, and with the release of their phenomenal third full-length,Crack-Up,earlier this year, we are on course for two transfixing evenings of orchestral beauties new and old. Personally, I’m stoked to see how the band weaves together the introspective new material with the sweeping folk of the past. With their now expansive catalogue of gems, there really isn’t any way they could go wrong.

To top things off, the band is bringing along the quiet bedroom folk of Bedouine. If you haven’t checked them out yet, take a listen below and get excited for this complimenting opener.

If you don’t already own it and you’re not into holding a 2xLP through the whole show, go buy it on the Nonesuch Records page. Trust me–Crack-Upis one of those records you need to hold in your hands.

Another Whispertown Gem For You

I can’t tell you how excited I am for people to spend the rest of the year fawning over this wonderful Whispertown record. She just dropped another single, which has me staring longingly out my window, wondering what’s to come. Her quick vocal delivery on this tune is a marvel, only punctuated by heavenly backing vocals. Morgan Nagler has this power that draws you completely into the song, and you’ll find that I’m a Man is filled with such rare quality…so much so that you might not listen to anything else; look for it on September 1st via Graveface Records.

Check New Wireheads Single

I’m always locked in on what’s happening in the Australia neck of the woods, and Wireheads have popped up previously, though their next LP is promised to be their best work to date (it was recorded by Calvin Johnson). There’s something about the way the guitar is strummed in the front of the mix, while a echo-y drum pounds in rhythm to moving piano lines. If you’re listening closely, you can definitely hear the lineage of Aussie poetic delivery…makes me fawn nostalgically. They’ll be releasing Lightning Ears on October 20th via Tenth Court…but sample this gem in anticipation of another great Oceanic pop release.

Check Out This New Abraham King Tune

Stop what you’re doing right now and check out this new tune called “Spit” from Brooklyn based outfit Abraham King. It starts a little bit slow, almost a downer to be honest, but once it drops and the heavy bass comes in, it brings something truly special. Think old school 90s indie bands like Pavement if the breaks were even heavier.

Abraham King will dropping their debut LP sometime this fall. Stay tuned.

Smooth Pop from Hamjam

I’m really surprised there’s not more of a hubbub concerning Hamjam, considering it features members of both Pond and Methyl Ethyl. Regardless, the act is crafting this sleek synth pop, filled with little burst of soaring vocals and infectious hooks. You want this tune playing as you slip into your nighttime groove; it’s definitely has vibes that guarantee a good time. And, if you’re into it, you can grab a/s/l? from Bedroom Suck Records. You can stream the whole LP HERE.
